A massive chunk is now reserved for coefficient payments, which seems abnormally large, the payment is based on the historical success so naturally favours the bigger clubs. Whats alarming is this payment for the bigger clubs is bigger than actual prize money.

Is this the sort of changes that italy etc. were pushing for?

Nothing new. Everything about football is about establishing and sustaining the elite.

It's why moments like the Leicester City title win are all the more remarkable. Likewise particularly cruel denying someone like Ajax a Champions League final that probably shouldn't come again.

Realistically 90% of football fans shouldn't bother but you have to ignore the inequality and just dream about upsetting the odds.

That's ridiculous, co-efficients should only be used for seeding and even then I think that the seeding is a bit too far...

Tbf chief I think there has been seeding in some form or another since 60s and 70s.

I more meant the extent of the seeding, rather than it existing, for me only the league winners from the top 6 countries and the winner of last years CL/EL should be seeded, only other seeding should be to prevent inter country games in the group stages. I wouldn't stop inter country ties in the first knockout round and the seeding in the qualifiers is such a shit show it's not even worth getting into .

Wouldn't even prevent same countries in the groups.
Seed the champions and that's it imo.

it is clearly the "cream" wanting to stay on top and collect oodles of cash. its almost impossible for juve, real, barca, bayern to not be in this competition.

therefore they will keep their rank high and therefore collect the premium.

the english prem has this nasty little competitive issue.

if I were spurs I would be looking at potentially 70 mil dropping to 10 mil if they even make europa. that's a hell of a hole in the revenue.

same for chelsea now and why utd and arsenal are desperate to get in.

btw seeding has always existed and been an issue. Wenger's arsenal were laughed at for failing to get out of group 4 or 5 years running.

it was purely them being 4th seeds etc.

the seeding kind of assures the top 16 clubs are in knockouts. not always but it helps them big time.

its.only 6 games so if you put a 2nd placed team from spain in with say the first placed team in France and the 3rd placed team in england suddenly teams get worried.

seedings are designed to make the group stage an irrelevance.
