It's got to the stage where some clubs are - or, at least, were - able to buy a player
with a significant element of reason in the transaction being to stop their opponents signing the player.

Man Utd's then-manager Jose Mourinho signing Romelu Lukaku
when clearly Diego Costa was the weak link at Chelski in 2017
    being an obvious example.

Costa was a weak link in our 2017 title win?

No we'd just finished 9th under Mark Hughes when we bought Adebayor and Kolo, finished 3rd and bought clichy and Nasri.

City signed players from Arsenal when they were below them in the league and hadn’t won a title. The only time they’ve bought from a direct title rival was Sterling from Liverpool & Walker from Spurs too at a push.

On the other hand Bayern are already taking Upamecano from Leipzig. Him and Haaland would join a pretty sizeable list of players you’ve got from teams who had finished top 3/4. Gortekza, Sule, Rudy, Lewondowski, Hummels, Gotze, Neuer, Cuisance etc

It’s not a dig at Bayern, it’s a smart way to operate. It’s just not comparable to City & the PL.

He won't go cheap as you paid £40m , you've become like Atletico, sell big and replace and still successful

Yep we sold a number of expendable/expiring contract players to City at a time they were trying to impose themselves instead of trying to keep us down.

So I'm with you, it's not comparable AT ALL. Bayern cherry pick their 'competitors' at will and maintain a monopoly. One reason why I'm intrigued to see this apparent rule coming in of top clubs not buying from each other in the CL reforms. Potentially creates a gap between CL and non CL clubs (negative) but also potentially stops the monopolies we see at leagues across Europe (positive).

We haven’t been doing badly but firstly I doubt we can keep doing it and secondly we haven’t replaced Mahrez yet.

One could argue it's irrelevant? He left you guys when you just finished 9th. You finished 9th again, then 5th and are currently 3rd.

It would never work. Not only does it mean more pillaging against lower sitting opposition. But it would also create a player dilemma, it would encourage them to sign on earlier at top clubs and see even more waste of talent than we already do.
A positive part of going to say a Dortmund, for a player is that they know given the right price they can leave for that step up. Take that away and how many promising players end up rotting away on a stacked sides academy/bench because they had to rush for the big move?
