We ran out of steam after the 1st quarter, but still limped over the line. Our defense is awful, but we are 5-1!
Really bizarre decision by the HC to go for it on fourth down at midfield when it was 28–14, especially when you think their offence had done nothing up to that point. A better QB than Hurts may have erm, hurt the Bucs for that..
Honestly, going dor it on 4th down is pretty much always the right call, as the % chance to complete I believe is well over 50%. Certainly back in the day, mathematically 4th down was always the right call.
Just read that Zach Ertz has been traded to Arizona. That’ll help the Cards in getting seriously good on offence.
That must depend on 4th down and what….and where. 4th & 2 at the 20 yard line, fine. 4th & 13 on your own 40. Not so good…
4th and two on their own 45 wasn’t it? And they threw the ball instead of running when Fournette was doing pretty much what he wanted. And the really mystifying thing was up until that point Hurts had only thrown about 60 yards. The two TDs they scored were helped by huge pass interference calls. In summary then, a bad call..
Well, I thought the Chargers would be a tougher test than they were! I also cash out (for 50% of my original stake) on a 5 team accumulator because with a few minutes to go Panthers were 11 behind. 3 winners, Panthers and Cardinals from the 9pm games…
They are looking very good. A lot of the pieces are there, and Murray is starting to look like a heck of a smart pick - feels as though the guy is constantly improving. And even in the past where you'd see games in which he wasn't reading the field especially well, maybe throw a pick or two, he'd still finish the game having had a positive influence on it overall. Although I have to say that we were absolute dog shit on Sunday. Laughable performance. Defence should've been so much stronger this season, and despite beating up on the likes of Chicago, it actually looks worse. Mayfield's fourth year and I'm still not convinced, and don't think we can realistically be giving him an extension - maybe it's franchise tag territory, depending on how things go.
It's a really tough situation with Mayfield imo. He's solid enough that I think you have to give him an extension (especially given how hard the Browns have found it getting even a competent QB over the years), but I fully agree with you that I'm not convinced with him. He doesn't seem like the type of guy who would realise that he doesn't deserve anywhere near even Dak's contract, nevermind Allen or Mahomes. As a Steelers fan I'd absolutely love to see you overpay him and be stuck in cap hell for the forseeable to be honest.
It is def tough, I agree. We could do so much worse, but I don't realistically see that he'll ever be much more than midtable material. Maybe the absolute ceiling for big optimists is top 8-10, but I really don't see it. There's the odd game where he's so accurate and can make any pass, but it's only ever the odd game. Watching games from the angle we do, we don't get to see receivers getting open (or not), so it's tough to say, but so often he has time yet ends up seeing nothing, and just runs for 3 yards or whatever. He has a lot of options among the WRs, TEs and RBs, but you'd never know it at times. Character-wise, he's been great. That's why I still have some faith in him, because he's the type who can always bounce back, and he will always accept responsibility and want more from himself. We'll see, anyway. This was a season of optimism, but with half the team injured, and dubious showings on both sides of the ball... I doubt we'll match last season, despite looking stronger on paper. Kinda want to see Beckham off the field, as it just seems to kill Baker's decision-making. It's at the point now where it's just so obvious. Not even a case where you can outright blame OBJ - it just doesn't work (though he's def not worth his money). Think we should get whatever we can for OBJ and move on.
