Is it time for a similar discussion about diversity in the MOBO Awards?
They will only be happy when a black gay transexual disabled person wins the oscar for best actor and actress awards simultaneously.
1917 seems to be the consensus choice for best picture in this. Yet to see it, but can see why it would take away the award. Big grand war drama, and a fairly weak field this year.
From what I've seen, I'd give it to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. I enjoyed Ford v Ferrari too.
Well, the Academy proved me wrong today and I'm OK with that.
How on earth didn't For Sama win best documentary?
I thought the best picture category was stacked this year tbh. Looking forward to seeing Parasite.
Gotta watch Parasite and see what all the fuss is about then!
I tried watching Parasite the other day but the copy I had had subtitles that were garbled nonsense. I'll have to have a look for a proper version it seems.
I always find full subtitled films daunting unless they capture my attention early on so I avoid missing bits of dialogue as a result of my own wandering mind.
The fact this one could sweep up like it did, including best original screenplay is impressive though.
I'm always wary of 'Best Picture' winners anyway, The Artist being the biggest example of utter clart in recent years but there have been several I've thought were totally unremarkable in my humble opinion.
Parasite will be tarred a bit due to it winning as it'll feel like the Academy saying 'See! We like foreign things too!' but Parasite has been getting good reviews from all sources for a long while now, so I'm going in assuming the hype is justified. I'll probably see it on Wednesday.
I heard Kermode the other day saying he'd watched Parasite four times he liked it so much. I'm not a fan of his opinions but that's why I was trying to watch it yesterday.
I get a bit like that myself but one subtitled film I thought was brilliant was Days of Glory.
Also on subject of Korean subs, anyone ever watch Brotherhood? That’s a war film in Korean subs. Really worth a watch if you’ve not seen it.
Brad Pitt won an Oscar, what is the world coming to!?!
What you talking about?!?! Pitt is brilliant.
Sure he is.
Is it you Saltire that doesnt rate Leo?
