Hi , I played school football in Edinburgh in the late 60s before we moved here. This was a barren wasteland for football, but with time I was infatuated with NHL hockey. I loved Montreal Canadians, through their dynasty since watching them was like watching the beautiful game. The CANADA-RUSSIA series was the panicle!

But through the 1980s got fed-up with NHL expansion , which substituted fighting for quality game play- in the interest of big business expansion of the teams into America $$$$$$ . Players salaries seemed more important than the team and mediocrity ruled . The wife used to say 'oh a hockey game broke out in the midst of a fight'. The few times I went to a game it was like everyone was being entertained @ home . If I yelled to support the team - people would glare at you.... not what I call supporting a team.

Big Business destroyed the sport for me and I will not go back!!! .

Upshot was I watched the EURO-2008 and noticed that local cable were showing EPL games on the weekend. HALLUEA I WAS SAVED!!!

Born again -I must have watched every weekend since then and was Born again twice when I discovered SPL Celtic games....God be praised :bananadance

However I do have words of caution for you guys. It looks to me like Big Business is getting its claws in to the FA just like it did to hockey in N America . I hope it doesn't do that to the EPL/SPL.

Welcome here at ff. Nice to see that more and more North Americans are interested in (real) football. But I see that you are originally from Scotland so you have it already in "your blood" ;)

Too late for that. See all those firms and billionaires and sheiks and asians who see the football as an "investion".

See, this a friendly mod here. He's a die-hard Rangers fan and welcomes you as a friend although you support Celtic. ;)

btw: Supports Chelsea/ManU? What's wrong with you? (only kidding ;) )

    amen to that.

That's OK My hatred of Rangers has waned over the decades, helped along recently with their miserable performances of late....last year I was howling for hours after HIBBS beat them convincingly.

The Chelsea/ManU is something of a revelation recently. I hated Man U since the only EPL games I could watch were always ManU games! and they always won????

But once I discovered the joy of watching the all the EPL games again , individual players and coaches became more important . So when Jan Matta ; Fellaini and Mourinho moved to United I realised I could get behind them.

    Thanks guys for the input.

I actually had a specific line of questions I was interested in asking but have no clue were to post them. While they concern

    N'Golo Kanté

    N'Golo Kanté - Wikipedia

    referes to Claude Makélélé

    Claude Makélélé - Wikipedia

    and Lassana Diarra

    Lassana Diarra - Wikipedia

WTF they all played for Chelsea...whats the "common denominator "?

N'Golo Kanté has made such a great impact on me watching at Chelsea & Leicester City last year, why doesn't every team have a guy like this?

why do I get deja vu when ever I watch him play?

Big business ruined hockey but not football.

YOU DO KNOW WE HAVE A ****ING SALARY CAP? AND AS RICH TEAMS HAVE TO SUBSIDIZE THE SHIT TEAMS SO THINGS ARE FAIR?

That's just one thing. JESUS WEPT. I hope Football doesn't get that uneven! LOL.

Here I thought I was welcoming a Whitecaps supporter. That did a 180 in more than one way.
