Also, having full backs helps sometimes in football. Gilberto is so bad, I have no idea why JJ signed him based on that.

Helped last night that they didn't have the corpse of Adil Rami at the back. Chidozie Awaziem was excellent.

Benfica had Maehle and Aurier on the sign list. JJ insisted in Gilberto

    IN-SANE

the man has got to win some % of these deals, he has really weird signings in the past as well

Also, prefering Gabriel over Weigl is madness, i know the German might not be the best defending, but so isn't Gabriel, and at least Weigl has waaay better criteria with the ball, he rarely makes mistakes.

I was going to say, why the hell isn't Weigl playing?

Also, how is Pizzi still there. I think he's been a bit underrated for Benfica but he's the ultimate stat peddler and his time has come and gone. Needs to be riding the bench at this point surely.

Pizzi and Andre Almeida won too much power in the club, i don't get it really. Managers come and go, and there they are, they must be something special at training

Pizzi I kind of get because he at least has goals & assists to his name. Almeida though...

Pizzi should be thanked for all he's done and sent off to finish his career at Vitória or Braga etc. At this point he's just blocking a spot in the first XI for better, younger players.

Another convincing win for Sporting. Another brace for Pote.

    It’s actually happening isn’t it ?

Top result away from home. Pote continues to be lethal and our best Bruno replacement act. Selling Wendel looks even better now!

One thing I have to say. Our central midfield is a joy to watch. Joao Palhinha who was earmarked as William’s replacement, it’s taken him longer than expected to get there but he is a rock and I’m so glad to see him succeed with us. And then Joao Mario. I’m gutted for him that it didn’t work out at Inter Milan, but I’m very glad for us as he’s back and proving what a good player he is. He’s a massive, massive player for us

Also.. best attack and best defence in the league. First time we’ve won 4 away games to start the season in 24 years. Amorim is looking like he’s worth the money we paid for him

There's no thread for the Papa John's cup so I'll stick this in here to avoid cluttering the domestic cups forum.

Fábio Silva got his first 2 goals for Wolves U23 last night vs @Donnyrovers90 own Rovers. Two really nice finishes, the second after he beat ex-Wolf Cameron John to the ball and went straight through on goal.

    1st -
    2nd -

It’s a bloody farce that competition and that really epitomized it to me

It used to be a competition that gave league one and league two clubs a chance at Wembley and a trophy, whereas now premier league teams can field 35 million pound signings in their academy

Plus a keeper with an England cap and a Brazilian wing back who played in last seasons Champions League Semi Final.

Benfica is going with the B squad for the Portuguese Cup tie with Paredes. I fear an historical elimination

Didn't realise Sporting started the league so well. Hopefully it's not a case of the big 2 giving them a head start. Still not getting my hopes as they played just one game against them and it was a 2-2 draw vs Porto. The game at the Luz on the penultimate day looks like a title-decider already (miles away from that I know but big Portuguese sides generally win all their games and if they don't, the manager usually gets sacked).

Here's to Sporting for keeping it up. 19 years after last wining it (can't believe the league actually went 3 seasons without neither Benfica nor Porto winning the league).

They're not top by accident, they're playing the best football as well. If they can keep relatively injury free and hold on to their best players in January they'll have a really good chance to win the title.
