We have, much like last season, desperately suffered from injuries to key players. It's absolutely ridiculous. If we didn't have so many key players out, we would be well out of the relegation picture:

People say our form has dipped since Silva was approached by Everton. But actually, the crazy amount of injuries started then too.

Two seasons running this has happened... surely our fitness teams and medical teams need looking at?

I think your form's dropped since Silva was found out (again).

You'll probably score enough goals to stay up as you look decent going forward, but your defence is a mess and teams are starting to realise you'll fall apart if you're attacked. The exact same thing happened at Hull.

He really needs to invest in a defensive coach.

Can definitely see us dropping back into the bottom three at the end of January with Arsenal, West Ham, and Chelsea to play this month.

Then Feb is huge for us - Stoke, Huddersfield, and Newcastle. I'm still hopeful we can avoid the drop, but think we'll be well in it right to the bitter end sadly. We could really do with an exciting signing this month to revitalise the squad and fans.

Yeah, defensively we are a mess. But if we had players like Chalobah, Hughes, Femenia etc. Who are all great on the ball, we have more possession and therefore there would be less pressure on the defence. Right now we lose the ball so often it puts so much pressure on that poor defence.

Agree about needing a defensive coach. The defenders we have will be good with a bit of organising.

For Ourselves to stay up we need a maximum 8 more wins imo which isn't going to happen

Might as well Start preparing for the championship...

    Do you mean minimum Meggo?

I'm sure you'd stay up with 12 wins for example.

I find it highly unlikely that West Brom and Swansea will make it so easy on the bumfight above by just dying away and leaving only 1 spot.

Pardew is bound to produce a couple of results from nowhere, even if the consistency lacks. And Swansea looked dead and buried at one or two points last season, later in the day than early January, but still pulled it out.

This is going to be a bloody stressful 5 months for us all

Too much quality in our side to go down.

Stoke and Southamptons problem at the moment is a lack of credible alternatives to the current incumbent managers in their posts. The likes of Allardyce etc are taken up, which leaves only the likes of Redknapp (not happening at Saints) and McClaren (been in decline for years now). Rodgers is the only other realistic atm for both who has PL experience.

If i were Stoke and they got rid of Hughes, i would try a younger manager impressing in the lower leagues like Paul Hurst, you may get relegated and it would be a risk of course, but relegation could occur under an experienced man like Redknapp too. If Stoke go down they have had 10 years in the PL which is a good run for a club of their size, plus they get Parachute payments which give them a good chance of a quick return. I would be willing to take a chance on someone like Hurst if i were Stoke

Sadly you're right but I'd have a chuckle if it happened.

Don't get me wrong we're definitely going down, but your maths is miles off. With the amount of draws we already have and will get there's no way we'll need another 8 wins to stay up, 5 or 6 would probably do it but that seems like 5 or 6 more than we'll actually get.

Reckon Stoke will sack Hughes today personally.

I’m surprised it’s taken so long for yous to find yourselves down here. Changing managers every season isn’t ideal but you’s lot sell your best players every summer. As much of a production line your youth academy is, it’s not sustainable, and it’s a damn shame that soton are where they are. Just like us at the start of the 2000s, if we could have actually kept our players wed have been challenging for the title rather than fighting relegation

I reckon one of Stoke or Saints should take a punt on Gary Rowett. I'd like him here if/when Hodgson retires.

He's done an excellent job at all three of his clubs so far. Reckon he could be the next Howe/Dyche.

I can't really look past ourselves and West Brom to go down. The last couple of games under Carvahal have suggested that we'll at least go down battling on the pitch, but there's just been so much criminal stuff happening off the field that haven't given us a chance in such a competitive division. By the sounds of it, we're not likely to be bringing anyone in January, and if we don't then we just don't deserve to stay up. Unless there's some serious change in the running of the club then we're going to go the way of Sunderland next season.

I personally don't think relegation is the end of the world, but it's the manner of the relegation that's so disappointing.

Rowett is a name a lot of fans on our forum have put forward as a potential successor. Anyway, looks like Hughes is going nowhere for now.
