Cech seems like a top guy.

Honestly shocked at how serious his injury actually is.

That article was rough to read. I am also shocked at just how serious it is. Hopefully he can fully recover and is able to play again. Really good of Cech to support him having suffered a nasty head injury himself.

Hope he fully recovers, sounds like a really tough time he's been through and the incident still goes through me when I think about it

Very nice gesture from petr cech, must be tremendously reassuring to have him offer support

On a footballing note it's a real shame for him to miss out on hulls run in as he didn't get the chance to join in their resurgence and play with some of the players brought in January such as grosicki and markovic

That was a rough read. Hope he can make it back to the football pitch.

He has announced his retirement from football with immediate effect.

    So sad :(

I'm sure he will find himself a good coaching role or something else within the game though. A top bloke and top professional, I'm sure Spurs and Hull will help him out.

Such a shame. I thought he was close to a comeback.

Could've been so much worse though.

I'm sure he'll stay involved in football.

I'm not justifying football players wages at the ridiculous top end, but you can understand why players try to negotiate the best possible contracts they can for reason like this. You never know how short your career will be cut. He is only 26 and has to start out again in whatever careers he chooses and there is no guarantee that he would have a decent job within football

Shame, but I never expected him back after we got details of his injury.

He was doing some part time punditry at the start of the season if I remember correctly, so he may do that. Either way he gets to live his life now and that's the important thing.

Gutted for him really. Such a horrific injury but the lad nearly died. At least he has a life to live.

Sad about his career but he has his health which is far more important. He’s lucky not to come out of this with any permanent damage

Very sad news, wish him all the best.

Could he potentially play semi-professionally if he wanted I wonder, maybe his injury only rules him out playing at the higher levels of the game?

I doubt it, it's not that he can't play anymore but that the risk is too high. Clashing heads in professional or semi-professional football isn't any different. Only difference is that he could probably get around not going for headers anymore.

Cahill must be down in the dumps.

Been horribly exposed this season. Merked by Deulofeu as well as a handful of other average players. Lost his England starting spot now about to lose his club captaincy. To top it off, now ended Mason's career.

Yeah it's Cahill I feel sorry for in all of this.

Gutted for Mason. Short career but on the plus side got to captain his boyhood club and play for his country through hard work.

Infuriating when you see other players completely waste their talent.

Hope Mason stays in football whatever he does next.

Gutted for him. As mentioned several times, the important thing is his health.

new (i think) wage cap concept. let them earn x over the course of a career however quickly they can do that and then they have to play for nothing until the threshold rises with inflation.

if mason has any potential in coaching or management he's now got a head start on his competitors
