Signed a new deal till 2024.

    Southgate signs new England contract

The FA will particularly like the fact he seems to be very happy to give young players a go and the squad seems to be together and always progressing .

The style of football might not to everyone liking and tactics sometimes a bit negative but they will view Southgate as building and developing a squad for years to come .

Semi-final at the World Cup and final at the Euro. More than any other England manager, except Alf Ramsey, has reached. And now qualified without problems for the World Cup in Qatar. Only natural to extend his contract.

Until 2024? So maybe I'll see him in Germany for the Euro then. Maybe England even play in the Volkspark? ;)

He's done a great job. People forget how poor England were before he came in. It was painful to watch and we always bottled it when it mattered.

There are some people who will criticise Southgate even if we win a World Cup but unfortunately that's modern football. I think most fans with half a brain appreciate the job he's done and feel proud to watch their national side again. The scenes in 2018 and 2021 prove that much.

Fantastic news, best England manager in my lifetime by a country mile. Needs to stop sticking with favourites though and Ramsdale needs to be number 1 going forward

Southgate does have players at his disposal to play a progressive way whilst still having that defensive structure. I'd love to see this.

    Ramsdale
    James Stones Tomori
    TAA Gallagher Rice Chilwell
    Foden Sterling
    Kane

I see you've gone for Sir Gareth's favourite mindset and picked Sterling over Saka

Just heard Sir Gareth on the radio, this man won't rest until we win something. What a guy!

People can say what they want about the likes of Pickford and Maguire, they perform to 100% in an England shirt. Pickford has been outstanding for us in penalty shootouts.

Not better than Ramsdale though who's earned the No 1 spot on merit

I've gone for a more 'progressive' backline. Ramsdale (from what I've seen) is fantastic on the ball in terms of distribution. James and Stones speak for themselves and Tomori has all the tools to be a top CB.

Agreed. Whilst club form wouldn't get them picked now, it did previously and they've been 2 of the country's best performers and they deserve their places.
