Not really kept up with the transfer window in L1 this summer so I'm interested to see the strength of other sides 11? I'd say with everybody fit ours would be -

    ------------- O'Donnell
    Riley McGowan O'Connor Chicksen
    ------------ Wright Akpan
    Scannell -- Payne -----------Robinson
    --------------- Wyke

We're linked with Kelvin Mellor so if he came in I'd probably put him RB and move Riley to LB. If Wyke leaves(likely) I'd probably say Miller would play but we must sign a goalscorer if we do get rid...

If we get any injuries we're struggling. Full-backs we're weak, width we're weak and not too keen on any of our forwards tbf, maybe apart from Jones.

Having not seen any of pre-season I'm gonna have to go with a mix of what the manager seems to prefer and what I think, as I've not seen the new players except Anderson who was on loan last season...

    Marosi
    Mason Wright Butler Andrew
    Crawford Whiteman Rowe
    Coppinger Marquis Wilks
Manager could go with Lawlor as first choice GK, and Tom Anderson over Butler/Wright at the back. Midfield looks overly attacking so it could be McCullough in there as a defensive minded option, in which case I'd expect Crawford to drop to the bench. Other alternative is both Crawford and Whiteman benched and Coppinger in the midfield 3 alongside McCullough and Rowe.

Beestin could (and perhaps should) be somewhere in the front 3 either side of Marquis but this new guy Mallik Wilks seems to have caught the eye in pre-season. Kiwomya is another option but I'd be surprised to see him in the starting XI on Saturday. Paul Taylor could still sign also which would be another attacking option.

Basically, we've got a new manager who's keen to implement a new system so it's hard to say. A few hints dropped in pre-season but I think he's open to players earning a place.

Probably, anyway. Not caught any of our pre season games.

    Coleman
    Bolton Nsiala Sadler Beckles
    Laurent Colkett Nolan
    Okenabirhie Payne Gilliead

Arguably Whalley or Holloway could get picked but that's how I'd start v Bradford next week.

Of course this is still dependant on signings, but I would probably go for this as it stands:

    GK: McLaughlin

    RB: Matthews
    CB: Loovens
    CB: Baldwin / Ozturk
    LB: James

    CM: Cattermole
    CM: Honeyman
    CM: McGeouch

    RW: Gooch
    ST: Sinclair
    LW: McGeady

I mean we have better quality options available in Ndong, Kone and Oviedo but they will not play a single minute for us this season IMO and will all leave before the transfer window shuts.

It's interesting the diversity of opinion surrounding our squad.

Plenty of reds fans seem to think we've a team capable of the top 6 minimum, while others like yourself seem worried. I can understand both sides of the argument tbf, especially with a new manager at the helm.

I personally think on paper we've near enough got the best front 2 pairing in the division, it's what's behind them that worries me if anything.

That's one of the best starting 11's in the division imo. You'll be top 6 I reckon.

    As we speak,
    Oxley
    Demetriou - Turner - Lennon - Coker
    Kightly - Yearwood - Hyam - McLaughlin
    Cox - Hopper

Gilliead a nice bet for first goalscorer then...

What's your prediction? If Beckles starts either side of the flank I'm excited to see Scannell/Robinson up against him tbf… I'd take a point

Fairly confident of a win, we have plenty of goals in us as pre season has proved, I think it’ll be a very exciting game and you will score... Beckles was poor in the play off final but he wasn’t named in the PFA Team of the year for nothing.

It’s the same side that last year showed no pride no passion no fight no effort and no commitment. And looked terrible week in week out.

Like you said that front two is probably the best in the league. Should get 30 between them.

    Adam Matthews
    Jack Baldwin
    Glenn Loovens
Reece James (Oviedo if prepared to play)

    George Honeyman
    Dylan McGeouch
    Luke O'Nien

    Lynden Gooch
    Aidan McGeady

    Josh Maja

SUBS: Ruiter, Flanagan, Ozturk, Cattermole, J Robson, Maguire, J Sinclair

We need another striker or two, possibly another winger and maybe another CM.

Our last friendly at Carlisle we didn't have a shot on target, so I wouldn't be so confident of an away goal. Today's signing of Kelvin Mellor has boosted our defensive ranks. With a better manager I'd be very confident we could take all three points, I'm looking forward to it anyhow.

Sounds like Sunderland last season. We’ve fundamentally changed our side though. Barnsley are in a weird position, I get the impression there’s almost an arrogance from your board that ‘this squad is good enough, permanent incomings and outgoings has been very static. Seems to be a lot of blind faith that you have a squad that will do well, at least on the clubs part, you’ll obviously finish top half but a lot, probably the majority of people I’ve listened too and read on are tipping Barnsley for the title, but I’m not convinced.
