On paper you'd back Dimi. Definitely open and hopefully Norrie can pull it out of the bag.
Norrie is doing it. Can he hang on.
He did it.
What a week he is having .
Great fight back.
GB's Norrie wins Indian Wells title
Good for him!
$1,209,730 in the bank and a 2nd top title for a "British" player after Radecanu!
Norrie with a Masters title... mad! I think it'll very much be a one-off, but the guy can be thrilled with his career now, and he deserves it after working tirelessly over the past few years. I can't say I ever thought he would win at this level, but Cam has the rare combination of having the competitive drive and also being able to let losses go, not slipping into a bad place mentally. Also quite funny how he succeeds here after Henman, Rusedski and Murray all made Indian Wells finals, but all lost.
Paris is traditionally the wildcard Masters for having a variety of winners, but I can see IW becoming the same, as the conditions are so odd.
Actually a bit unlucky at slams this year was Cam - Nadal at both AO and RG, Fed at Wimbledon (albeit a poor Fed, should've given him a tougher match), and Alcaraz in 1R at US.
Great win for Norrie. British tennis looking really strong at the moment. Especially if you take in the doubles players and wheelchair tennis
Stayed up to watch it and was worried after the first set. Basilashvili has the better shot making but Norrie's consistent game and his calm head helped him win in the end. Basilashvili has a better overall talent level but as the match showed, he can't maintain it. Delighted for Norrie.
Yeah, Basilashvili is probably the best example there is of that type of headcase shotmaker. Total dynamite when he's on, but a smart player will generally be able to make him beat himself, bar those occasional days where it all works.
Didn't see it, but Murray has apparently just beaten Tiafoe in three TBs, saving match points, after 3 hours 45 minutes.... The guy is such an insane fighter - it can never be reiterated enough. He's just got that champion gene, what a legend.
A true test of his fitness - even Murray couldn't believe it!
Murray beats Tiafoe in Antwerp thriller
Australia - or more accurately Victoria’s premier - has stated that only double dosed players will be allowed to enter the 2022 AO in January. Novak probably isn’t vaccinated (he’s said it’s a private matter so there you go) so the mens title is wide open..
He definitely isn’t. He’s made various anti-vax comments previously. Tsitsipas isn’t vaccinated either.
In that case I might put my name down.
Great win for Murray over Hurkacz.
Well played .
Nice - finally gets his man after two tough losses. Not sure he'll ever be able to string together the performances like he once did, but he's certainly still able to play at a high level, and proving it with a top-10 win here. Another ridiculously bad draw this week. Hurkacz is seeded high everywhere, and yet Murray's played him three times in a couple of months or so - says it all really. Now Alcaraz, and likely Berrettini if he can win..
These tough draws are really becoming a problem now. What he needs is a run of wins to get the confidence and fitness flowing and enable him to trust his judgment better in the key moments. The odd good win is all well and good but when you keep going out in the next round due to really tough draws it stops him from building any momentum and from getting his ranking moving in the right direction.
Raducanu with her first WTA tour win lol mental that she won a slam before a single win on tour.
Murray beaten in straight sets by Alcaraz this time .
Disappointing for Andy, but Alcaraz is a special talent. It says a lot that Alcaraz had to play some of his best tennis to beat Murray. I think Murray has a lot of reasons to feel positive about next season.
