They have to provide their own door knobs though.

Are HGVs considered 'critical workers', if not they should be.

No idea I was just doing the shop and had to queue to get in because dickheads were shouting at the staff and holding up the traffic.

The pandemic made everybody a "critical", "crucial" or "key" worker, this included me as a WFH graphic designer working in the telecoms industry

It's going to be a tricky one for the government to re-prioritise certain professions now that everyone is married to the idea that they're extra special.

"Critical" workers should be those who keep the utilities working and the emergency services. "Crucial" or "key" workers are doctors, nurses, HGV drivers (not Amazon delivery men) and those who maintain the country's infrastructure. In my humble opinion of course.

Doesn't the Priti Points System have HGV drivers classed as non-skilled?

The government is to suspend competition law to allow oil firms to target fuel deliveries at petrol stations following recent panic buying.

Officials said the move would make it easier for companies to share information and prioritise parts of the country and locations most at need.

It follows days of queues at petrol pumps after fears of disruption to the supply of fuel sparked panic buying.

Ministers are also considering deploying the Army to deliver fuel.

Announcing the measure to exempt the oil industry from the Competition Act 1998, Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said: "We have long-standing contingency plans in place to work with industry so that fuel supplies can be maintained and deliveries can still be made in the event of serious disruption.

"While there has always been and continues to be plenty of fuel at refineries and terminals, we are aware that there have been some issues with supply chains.

"This is why we will enact the Downstream Oil Protocol to ensure industry can share vital information and work together more effectively to ensure disruption is minimised.

"We thank HGV drivers and all forecourt staff for their tireless work during this period."

Fuel supply: UK suspends competition law to get petrol to forecourts

    Anyone explain this to me?

Big oil can legally act as a cartel and the government are going to assist them by using the Army.

Can only see such noble sentiment entrenching peoples views on Brexit tbh.

I know remainers are trying to desperately pin this to solely brexit . The fact is though , as I said in an earlier post , there are many European nations struggling for hgv drivers right now

One of the countries in a more dire situation being Poland

I just sit back and watch them now. It's quite amusing.

Nothing will beat when the French closed the borders because of a new strain of covid when lorries were parked on the M1 and they started posting in here about it

I love how people on a football forum think brexit isn’t part of the cause when everyone who actually knows what’s going on says it is.

Nothing like a bit of cognitive dissonance to entrench a view right?

    I never said it wasn’t a cause . I said it wasn’t the main cause .

Please answer my question , why is Germany suffering from a shortage of hgv drivers (about 73,000) why is Poland short of hgv drivers (123,000) ? Is brexit the cause there too ?

the thing is , I’m open to cooperating with the eu on certain issues . Like the passports for example .

I have no doubt there are leavers who see everything good as brexit related . There are also some ardent remainers out there who want to tie everything bad as brexit as the main reason .
