It doesn't need to get any bigger, as the group phase is already dull as it is. It's the Europa League which needs changing/.

If it goes up to 64, it MUST go to straight knock out.

It should be it's namesake. The CHAMPIONS league. Should just be teams who are actually the champions of their domestic leagues.

Then those finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th in their domestic leagues go into the Europa league. Instead of teams in 5th, 6th and 7th places.

despends what you want from the UEFA Champions League

if it is money then 64
if it is quality football then 8 or 16.

since football is all about money these days then it will end up at 64.

if 64 teams in the UEFA Champions means the end of the europa League then I am all for it.

but please no more than 4 scottish club in europe as most of then are rubbish and the places are better allocated to other league's like the English Premier League and or dutch league.

Has to be a ranger fan, deluded and trying to indoctrinate us all with BS and failing miserably. The only team in that bunch worth inclusion is AC Milan, if none of them were in the competition it wouldn't worry most people.

One of the worst changes in modern day football, playing pointless groups. The EuroDisney League copied the idea and that is equally dull in most games, sides only needing to win three games and knowing there will likely be one whipping boy in the group so playing out cagey head to heads against rivals for top spot a lot of the time.

More than 64 qualify already don't they? It's just people decide one stage is qualifying and the next is "proper". It needs to go back to straight knock out, TV won't want that, but it will produce fewer dead rubbers. Why play six games per team (12 group games total) to reduce four teams to two, when two games per team will do the same in less games (4 two-legged ties total) ??!?!?! Answer = ££££££.

The next round of games in both competitions will throw up a decent tie or two, but it's only the QFs that bring the competition to a potentially exciting point. While they keep sides from the same country apart, and seeding keeps the big clubs apart, it limits the interest as the organisers want as many big guns in the last eight as possible. Until Barcelona or someone rips the mancs a new one it's just a progression, getting the big teams through in as big a number as possible with the odd upset which I bet TV hates because it denies them a big gun clash.

the old ways are often the best
2 groups of 4 playing each other in same group twice one home once away. group winners meet in single match final at stade france in Paris (each May). simple easy to understand and quality football along the way.

I would personally like to see the group stage of the UCL start with the last 8 teams (replacing the current quarter final)
I would prefer 1 group of 8 teams rather than 2 groups of 4, playing each team just once. So 7 games in total with the top 4 advancing to the semi finals.

Imagine the quality of teams in that group!

This is how it could look......

UEFA Champions league (Group of 8)

    1. Barcelona. Q to semi final
    2. Real Madrid. Q to semi final
3 Man city. Q to semi final
4 Bayern Munich Q to semi final
    -------------------------------------------
    5 PSG. Eliminated
    6 Juventus. Eliminated
    7 Atletico Madrid Eliminated
    8 Liverpool. Eliminated

League format with 12 in one division and 12 in another. Maybe have 4 relegation spots and obviously 4 promotion. I know that's 22 games a season but it's 13 to win it now. Maybe the teams competing could opt out of their domestic cups. At least a league format proves the best team in Europe unlike the luck of the knockouts that real Madrid have benefited from on a couple of occasions when they really weren't the best in Europe

If we want to see greater quality in the group stage and more competitive match's I wouldn't mind a 16 team group stage either. With 4 groups of 4 and top 2 advancing to the quarter finals.

There wouldn't be any need for Uefa to reduce the number of teams competing in the UCL proper just have knockout round with 32 teams before the group stage and then have the 16 winners enter the group stage.

    Group A
    Barcelona.
    Man Utd.
    PSG.
    Dortmund.

    Group B
    Real Madrid
    Man City
    Juventus
    Bayern Munich

    Group C
    Liverpool.
    Inter Milan.
    Atletico Madrid
    Schalke.

    Group D
    Monaco
    Spurs
    Roma
    Sevilla

Fantastic quality in the group stage although unlikely to happen as the 'big clubs' probably wont agree to the risk of playing a round of 32 knockout match (2 legs) and potentially missing out on the guaranteed 6 match's of the group stage if they lose in the first round.

Why not have a different format to determine who makes the UEFA Champions League final?

I agree that 2 groups of 4 to replace the quarter final and the winners advancing to the final would be superb quality.

But for something new how about a rugby union 6 nations type format?
Teams could be whittled down to 6 via a first group stage and ko round's.

Each team could play each other once with the top 2 advancing to the final.
I realise that some teams will have an extra home game more as they only play the opposition once (5 group games on total) but this could be decided on UEFA co -efficents.

The quality of teams in that group would be fantastic and make for some massive games.

    Here's how it could look.

    UEFA Champions League (super 6)
    P
    Barcelona 5
    Bayern Munich. 5
    ---------------------------------------------
    Real Madrid 5
    Atletico Madrid. 5
    Juventus. 5
    PSG. 5

    Final
    Barcelona v Bayern Munich

The reason that the UEFA Champions league logo has 8 stars on it is because the UEFA Champions League is supposed to have exactly 8 teams in it.

Plus originally in season 1992/93 and 1993/94 the UEFA Champions League was only the group phase of the European Cup (2 groups of 4 teams) instead of knockout quarter finals and semi finals with group winners going into the final.

I wish the group stage of the UEFA champions League had just 8 teams in it. either one league of 8 teams or two groups of 4.

When I watched the Champions League in 1992/1993 when it had 8 teams in the group phase I was enthralled and excited by it. now with 32 teams in the group phase I could not care less if I never saw it again. Money has ruined the champions league.

There shouldn't even be a group stage.

the only likely way that the we would get a 8 team champions league is if some of the big teams say Real Madrid, AC Milan, Barcelona and Bayern Munich get an automatic place each season the group stage as they would not potentially put up with missing out on the guaranteed 6 match's in the group stage if they lose in the (qualifying) knock rounds .
