It’s ridiculous. It’s the same with rugby league , which I used to follow. They have ruined it. As for the champions league it will develop into a super league no doubt. Tradition is going out of football year by year, so the big clubs will follow wherever the money takes them.

Cricket is going the same way, Sky changing start times in the hope of attracting more viewers. There is now no cricket on terrestrial TV it’s all on either Sky or BT Sports. The ECB are bringing in a competition no one wants but the ECB see it as a potential cash cow. How I miss the days when every game started at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. We have fans who travel from Ireland & Scandinavia who book tickets, flights & hotels just to see the game changed to a different day or a different kick off.

It’s not about the fans no more. All about viewing figures and sky money. I’m a traditionalist anyway. The next step which will do me in is stopping the games over Xmas. Then you’ll have the top clubs flying out playing silly tournaments with other clubs.

Manchester United are one of the culprits for the death of the fa cup. They should have been banned for a few years.

Why not do something practical about it then instead of just whinging?

Stan has just ditched Sky Sports completely and I had it in 3 rooms.

Not that I ever watched it.

    Do it Rock, ditch Sky

@Villa Rocker you mention the FA Cup & the death of it. Here’s the TV schedule for the BBC back when Leeds played Arsenal in the Centenary Cup Final in 1972. It was one of the best days on TV, no matter who you supported.

Yeah, i've always thought this. i'd rather have play offs than not, but if you have them there's got to be merit based on league finish, otherwise you may as well finish 6th as 3rd. Birmingham were beneficaries of this the other year funnily enough with Huddersfield resting most of the first team for the play offs (as it didn't matter where they finished) and Birmingham needed to win to stay up.

Your suggestion is what I think would work better. Even if they keep it as it is now, at least make it one leg with 3rd and 4th place at home. Or if it's level after extra time the higher placed team goes through rather than pens.

The National League have adopted a similar approach which has worked better.

Yep, I remember growing up and no matter who was in the final, fa cup day was a big day. The build up, the game, then post match.

I've always thought a team could get a goal start if they're a certain amount of points ahead of the opponent.

    10 points = 1 goal. At least it's a tangible advantage.

The real passion left football once Sky took over.
i was at the 72 Cup final ( as a young lad ) but still class that game/result as my favourite memory as a Leeds fan. The visit to Wembley was special ( now diluted as the semifinals are played there) I was so excited I didn’t sleep for the 2 nights before the game.

I refuse to go to semi finals at Wembley. Semi finals were great at neutral grounds.

You are indeed correct in that the semi’s were great at neutral grounds ( and cheaper ;) ) usually Villa Park & Hillsborough were the choices. Both proper old fashioned football grounds with decent capacities. The day the took these days to Wembley is the day the cup died for me.

The semis were always a big day too. I rarely watch semi finals now.
