You're just throwing out random facts now. How does any of these things prove he wasn't a top five keeper?

VDS was at his top longer than Reina, but the latter was the best keeper in the league for a couple of campaigns. I've said before, the speed of Reina's regression meant his quality has often been overlooked subsequently. He went from being the best in the league from around 2007 to 2010/11 to being pretty shit in no time. But at his peak he was absolutely sublime.

if you read back I never actually said he wasnt.

I actually said his time at fulham should count just as much as his utd days.

I never really got the fuss with Van der Sar.

Granted he had a brilliant career (although his move to Fulham was a bit bizarre at the time) but I never saw him as really world class.

Probably 'cos he's built like Wayne Hennessey.

There are 9 games left to play but Liverpool would have won the title with their current points tally in 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2003 and 2016.

Not Seaman in that time period... he retired in 2002 or 2003 I think, and really wasn’t that good in those years.

Joe Hart deserves a mention, imo.

Think it’s just sentimentality at that point. Like Reina I think Hart is harshly judged due to how dramatic his drop in form was.

He was at United 6 seasons and played 266 games, he's 75th on United's highest appearance list.

Though he did have Agger and Hyppia who surely must have been the best defenders in Premier League at some point....

    so?

again to be clear he spent 11 years at ajax, only a short time at juve then 5 years at fulham.

your time was his final club and he came at about 35 years of age and retired at age 41.

dont see how me saying he was in the later stages of his career by the time he went to utd not that he wasnt at his peak.

again his fulham time was just as important

Helped that his main competition had his skull crushed by Stephen ****.

Mascherano and Xabi Alonso shielding the defensive weren’t too bad either.

It’s almost like Reina’s peak coincided with Rafa Benitez’s spell at Liverpool.

But I’m not sure how Reina would stand out in a ultra defensive team, set-up to not concede many shots and be protected by two holding midfielders.... ;)

Goalkeepers always stand out in formations that protect them. In the same way they can look shit in tactics that leave them exposed (see Cech at Arsenal).

He wasn't at his peak but picked up 4 League titles, a Cash Cup and a few other trinkets in his 6 seasons. Imagine how much better he'd have done if was at his best?

Don't forget the record for most consecutive minutes without a goal conceded.

    yup.

He won himself the CL in 1995 with ajax, also 4 dutch titles and the uefa cup too.

believe it or not he did have a career before utd. :)

He had a nightmare end to his juventus career and juve bought buffon so he jumped ship to the only place wanting him at the time in fulham.

not of that means he wasn't well into the later stages of his career by the time he walked into old trafford and none of it means he wasn't in a team with vidic ferdinand et al as well.

As I said above several times, calm and composed and competent. He lasted til he was 40 which is good going but you cannot tell me he wasn't creaking for his final two years at your club.

Reina's Villa reign doing his time in PL no favours tonight.

Yeah, definitely. Was thinking when reading what @Pagnell wrote about Reina that you could literally just change the name and timeline and it would be a perfect summation of Hart.

in the end have we actually picked who the 5th keeper in the top 5 is yet?

I still have cech, schmeichel and seaman plus VDS in 4th place.

surely theres a shout for a keeper who's not a glory hound standing behind the best team in england for most of his career :gotcha

Think outside the Goalkeepers @kloppbeliever mentioned, Reina's brief but excellent peak, Nigel Martyn longevity and excellence without playing for the "best" teams and I will put a shout out for Jääskeläinen (not sure folk would have him top 5 but quality keeper).
