[IMG][IMG][IMG]In 1941 Oberleutnant Horst Trebes won the Knights Cross during the Battle of Crete, one of the men in his Battalion was Oberjäger Karl Polzin. In August 1941, during a party celebrating the victory on Crete in the town of Halberstadt, the two, both the worse for drink, began arguing. Polzin began accusing Trebes of getting his KC for killing civilians on Crete. Polzin left the room and went to the toilets, later Trebes followed and (official story) fired his pistol in the air to wake Polzin who had fallen asleep on the toilet, officially the bullet ricocheted and killed Polzin. However in recently released files the cause of death states "accident, killed by three shots in the back of the head", doesn't sound like an accident to me. Photos show Polzin centre smoking cigarette in 1940, Trebes in Hildesheim (on my street !) in 1943, and the incriminating death report card of Karl Polzin :
