Yeah, the United fans
(This post is tongue in cheek before anyone snaps at me)
Anyway, could we see a surprise title challenger?
Well that would be Spurs, Chelsea or Arsenal. No. Spurs' squad will get too stretched by the 4 competitions and Chelsea/Arsenal won't be able to juggle the Europa with the league.
I don’t think Chelsea would be a surprise challenger tbh they have a history of sacking coaches and doing well straight away.
I'd say so, on here I think most have Liverpool and city as the favourites and similarly in the media I've not see anyone pick us to win the league Ands that's looking at over 45 pundits spread across BBC/ sky etc
With good reason, of course, so I'm not suggesting we are being targeted or anything.
They have a history of sacking a coach and hiring one incredibly similar, hence the continued success. Sarri is a huge change in style and approach from the likes of Mourinho and Conte. The last time they did this was AVB and he was gone after 7 months.
This was the point I was making about Chelsea in the summer, they will have to change their mentality if they want to succeed under Sarri. He will need time.
That doesn't mean people think United are shit.
AVB played a high line with Terry, Alex, AND Ivanovic and tried to play a possession game with the likes of Ramires, Raul Merelies, and Mikel.
He was destined to fail
I think we get a lot of stick for how we play in comparison to other teams.
But it's all relative, not Shit but not serious challengers
I think you're confusing being shit and being shit to watch. United are absolutely the latter, but not the former as shown by their runners up spot last season.
You're rightly not viewed as challengers in my opinion though, the quality needed to step up when required isn't there. That doesn't make you shit.
I have to agree, I don't see us challenging unless our new stadium gives us an enormous boost and we do horrible in cups or get a very good schedule. With some good fortune I could see us replicating our form of 2 season ago ending with 86 points but it will depend on injuries and cup runs and it probably won't be enough to really challenge. Contrary to popular belief our squad has decent depth and keeping them together should also be an improvement with more experience etc. Only position we don't have great cover for is CM.
The only thing that would surprise me is City not walking it.
Sneaky suspicion Chelsea will do better than most expected going into the season. Especially with Kovacic to come in. He gets some questions about his time at Real, but let's be honest, he was kept out by two/three of the best midfielders in the world.
CM is a glaring weak point for us, but I think we can/will counteract that by playing Eriksen and Alli in deeper roles a lot more this season, which also frees up another attacking spot for Lamela/Son/Lucas
Top 4 maximum for us. No way we are winning the title with Morata leading our line. Not unless he has weekly visits to a psychologist.
I think we will see more goals from your midfield and wide men than in previous seasons. Should make up for the lack of quality centrally to some degree.
Do psychologists stop you being crap then?
When was the last time a team won the league when their striker didn't score over 20 goals? Not a dig just genuinely curious.
Didn’t Anelka win the golden boot with 19 once...must have been that year?
Anyway you sound like Akny. PMSL
Edit. Just checked 10 times in the premier league era the golden boot has been won by 20 or less. So it is definitely possible.
In fact your own club won the title in 04/05 with Lampard top scorer on 13
Lmao this is amazing research why haven’t I checked this before to terrorize Gooner.
Screw the 20 goals. No idea why I said that. Morata in general isn't a clinical finisher, and for that very reason I don't think we'll win it. That and the fact City are miles apart from the rest.
Hazard, Pedro, and Willian can only do so much when their #9 can't finish dick
When Man United won the treble, their top league scorer only scored 18 (Dwight Yorke). But you can't win anything without a striker scoring over 20 league goals.
