Frustrating performance for us more than anything, forgetting the things that went wrong at the end even, it wasn't necessarily a bad performance (certainly better than last year) but absolutely nothing was clicking going forward. We had more than enough half chances that couldn't properly turn into really good ones. Ah well, 5 other group games to win :pray...

The standard of Ligue 1 is overall poor, it doesn’t matter what random result you throw up against an English side either .. it’s still poor.

These are the top leagues of Europe and the COMBINED market value of their players.

We can see that Premier League tops the ranking by a fine margin, in fact their players are worth 3 times more, despite Ligue 1 having more players...

Here is the ranking in full, Ligue 1 ranks 5th.

Premier League's 500 players are worth around 9b...

Superleague Greece ranks 12th, it's actually not that suprising, as our confederation is ranked 16th in the UEFA Rankings anyways!

    Nice mature reply.

    It isn't; it's defensive. If you'd watch, you'd know.

Anyway, english fans not watching continental football. News, history and all that.

Yes, League 1 us a pub league as well as Russian one.
If we'd remove PSG from League 1 it will be equal to Russian Premier League

    French vs Russian last results:

17/18: CSKA beated Lyon in 1/8 Europa League (0:1 3:2)
17/18: Lokomotiv beated Nice in 1/16 Europa League (3:2 1:0)
18/19: Zenit took 4 points in 2 games against Bordeaux in a League Europa group stage (2:1 1:1)
19/20: Zenit got a draw against Lyon (1:1) in away match of Champions League

So French got to overwhelm russian before being able to opponent against English

That tables divides the money each club has spent for having this squad by their number of victories...

Norwich is ranked first, they have won 2 games and it has cost them only 15m per game.

A Number of top rankings are being shared by midtable clubs...Liverpool, despite 5/5 is ranked 7th

Manchester Clubs find themselves at the bottom...

    I'm not sure I understand.

Had a conversation along the same lines with a Serie A fan and the stats do back it up: we're not good in Europe generally speaking. PSG has given better standards to our overall European results but we still struggle to beat average sides. Still, Marseille did make the EL final in 17/18 beating some decent sides (Bilbao, Leipzig).

I can easily understand how you come to that conclusion but I disagree. It's a defensive league and most games are boring to watch but that doesn't make it poor (why else would loads of Premiership clubs buy our defenders?).

Still there's quite a difference between finding a league poor and labelling it a sunday league...

Fiercest fans in Europe clash tomorrow...

I am of course talking about Red Star VS Olympiacos...If the two teams were not supposedly ''brother'' clubs, you could have expected a massacre...

Still available? They "love" their Champions-League

Tottenham vs Bayern. This will be interesting.
Kovac was full of praise about Spurs in the press conference, I heard. He said "Tottenham ist ein sehr positives Licht im europäischen Fußball" (Tottenham is a shining light (very positive light) in european football" and that he has a lot of respect about the work of Mauricio Pocchettino. Yes, I know coaches often do these "praising of the opponent" before a match but Kovac isn't normally one for "hollow words", he means what he says.

Coutinho was in a very good form the last 2 matches. And maybe Lewandowski can show his Bundesliga form (10 goals in 6 matches, never matched before in Bundesliga, not even by Gerd Müller) also in the Champions League. It will be necessary to get a good result.

2nd match today with a german club is: Juve vs Bayer Leverkusen . I don't expect much from Bayer but they must deliver after their loss at home against Moscow.

Can't wait for tonight, finishing work a little early so should get down to London at a reasonable time.

Tough game but I'd like to think we can win. Coutinho always seems to have a blinder against us though :(

Watched Bayern the last couple of games and they look pretty damn good tbf think they will get something at least. Defensively they look like they can be got at though but I reckon they will iron that out soon as it’s mainly because Kimmich has moved into midfield to accommodate Pavard at RB.

This in a nutshell is why I doubt City will ever win this competition.

There was a suggestion the other night on Talksport (yes I know..) he might not start and Bayern will go with 2 wide players.

He's in the expected starting line-up, though. If Lucas Hernandez can't play then Boateng will replace him.

    btw: A bit statistics:
Bayern didn't lose any of their last 9 away matches in the Champions League (6W-3D) and if they can stay unbeaten for another game then this will match their previous record of 10 unbeaten away matches from 2012-2014.
And they weren't beaten in their last 11 group matches in the Champions League (9W-2D) and since 2012 they got more points than any other Champions League team, 102 (Barcelona as 2nd got 99)
