They just have to get the right balance, seem to be heading the right way but if its there they need to use it. The burnley goal was a joke, clear foul but apparently not clear and obvious enough. While we don't want VAR running and ruining the game , when it is needed it should be used.

Think the VAR ref was Peter Banks who had a few issues last season with VAR both as a on pitch ref and in front of the screen?

They’ll be goals disallowed for a lot less than the Tarowski shove this season. I’m happy for a two handed push to be allowed this season but I know it’ll probably be us who gets a goal disallowed for it.

Have to say I was amazed it was allowed to stand, though not as amazed as Maupay. I reckon nothing much was made of it because you won the game anyway.

Yes - a goalie would have got the foul as they are well protected .

I notice Alan “elbows” Shearer thought it was fair !

To be fair Maupay had absolutely no intention of looking at the ball, let alone challenging for it. He was purely trying to block Tarkowski's run. The little runt deserved to be flicked over.

Never a foul for me, and I'd honestly say that whoever it was. If you're going to try and block someone at least try and be slightly strong.

Same goes for Leno on Friday night. Such weak goalkeeping.

The more of those that get waved away the better football will be.

Both offside goals would have been checked but obviously couldn’t have been close

Has anyone else noticed the tv companies aren't showing the lines anymore? I know they've made them thicker but there's clearly been a directive not to broadcast them as the decision is being made. Probably a good thing to be honest. They did my head in and only created more arguments.

It also covers the officials' arses but at least it makes for a more enjoyable spectacle.

Were there that many goals that could have been offside or many penalty shouts ?

It might have just been one of those lucky weekends where VAR didn’t need to get involved much.

Give it a few more weeks when the pressure kicks in and big games start having extra meaning .

It's probably a bit of both but the man utd goal last season would have taken 4 mins to check and then ruled out for an armpit being offside.
During the match it looked like they just checked the freeze frame for a few secs and decided they were level by either just looking or drawing a quick line.

Yep, even though it went against us i'd much rather it work like it did this weekend.

I also thought in general play the lack of giving a foul for every little bit of conflict was refreshing. Letting the game flow. You could see it in the players as they re-adjusted to not just flinging themselves to the ground at every opportunity (i'm looking at you Luke Ayling!). Hopefully it continues.

Fernandes's 3rd was very close, but I only realised when I got home, there was no delay of any kind in the stadium or any indication it was being checked.
Probably VAR's best ever weekend, so let's scrap it now while the going's good!

this was the way it always could and should have been but idiots like Mike Riley take years to stop being arrogant and admit they are doing it wrong

Watching MOTD I'm pretty sure VARc*nt is back.

It was good while it lasted.

Particularly if you are a Newcastle fan.

The old handball subjective call came into play although the guys on MOTD thought it was right.

The offside was pretty tight too.

They got the Everton/Leeds penalty right although it was pretty clear cut tbh.

Not sure either of the Leeds or Newcastle ones would've been given last week. Still not convinced by either at all.

Really hope we haven't slipped straight back into shitsville. Last week was so refreshing.
