I suppose if you're going to drink you might as well get bladdered. What's the point of a few beers or glasses of wine every day? I'd rather have nowt for 6 days and get wrecked 1.

If you're going to drink at least use it for what it was invented for - chronic denial and temporary escapism.

I binge drink. Friday night is always a heavy session, and then Saturday before and after game through the day if I am going to football, although not as heavy nowadays. Other than that I will have one pint with my Sunday lunch and then have nothing through the week. I was a lot worse when I was younger, when I'd be on it from Friday night until Sunday night, every weekend. but for the last decade or so I haven't been that bad.

I think it is a culture thing as others have said, but a generational one too. A lot of the younger lads (early to mid 20s) who go to my gym do not drink, or only drink a handful of times in a year when it a special occasion. They recognise the health benefits of not drinking, and also the money they will save as well. Although, having said that, I wouldn't change what I did, I had a bloody good time getting pissed up with my mates. Each to their own I suppose.

For me it's simply....hangovers. You pass a certain age and they're no longer an amusing part of the process to a great night out.

Yes, they are for me too. The days are long gone when I'd get up at 5 for work after 2hrs sleep. Work til noon rough as toast, then straight in the pub. We'd laugh about that. Now if i do have one too many I'm lucky if I get out of bed at all.

    How old are you?

    I’m 34 as soon as I hit 30 I couldn’t handle a hangover anymore.

Aye I definitely agree with you here. My first post was a bit tongue in cheek tbh, fact is I don't drink anywhere near what I used to for that reason.

My hangovers length depend on what I drink I've noticed as well so tend to just stick to drinking the stuff that affects me less.

Agreed. After graduating from college, I realized that the events of the evening are not worth the hangovers the next day. I can also have a perfectly fun time with a gentle buzz and be up in the morning and go about my day AND I remember the fun times clearly and can relive them again with my friends the next day over some delicious brunch.

    Same here.

Can't do what some people do, go for 2 or 3 in the afternoon and then come home, if I go out in the afternoon which is rare as I've never been into daytime drinking (unless its an occassion like a wedding, etc), I wanna stay out all night. Even when I used to go the match I'd barely ever go for a bevvy beforehand.

Correct. When you want to have a burger at 11AM or pancakes at 1PM.

Yeah every time I say I'm only going out for a few it ends up with me being a mess in the back of a taxi at 3am going to a house party. That's why I go through stages where I wont drink at all. Usually between September and Christmas week. Then I'll stop again in January and start again in June. The only time I break that is when I can get to the football.

Never had any issues when drinking beer alone really, though it has been a while since I've drank pint after pint, so dunno if I could handle that now. I had four whiskies one night about a fortnight ago, finishing off the bottle. And I had my water, went to bed a few hours after drinking, but then woke up feeling vile! Thankfully I live close to the sea so just sat there for 20 mins, then went and got some sushi and I was happy as Pags' Larry for the rest of the day.

Not been blootered in years now.

Never drink but most people I know do, some of them probably too much  a lot of local pubs here have closed and become co-ops in recent years

    Certainly shouldn't be proud
