Think the Mugpies are in for a rude awakening if they think they're just going to storm this league next year and get automatic promotion. If they lose Rafa especially, i think they might be down there a while, its going to be a lot harder to recover from this relegation than the last one.

I reckon they'll smash the league next season, especially if it's as lacking in quality as this seasons was.

If they can sell all the players who clearly don't want to be at the club and/or the ones who are no good then yeah I'd expect them to get automatic promotion. If they don't do that though then I can't see them challenging.

Thoroughly enjoyed it last time. We lost a hell of a lot of players after we got relegated last time, but like Mitch_wfc said, we got rid of the ones with big reputations but whose ability didn't match (Viduka, Owen, Duff, Martins etc.)

    We can afford to lose:

    Sissoko
    Wijnaldum
    Perez
    Cisse
    de Jong
    Janmaat
    Tiote
    Coloccini
    Krul
Saivet (literally never seen him play more than 5 minutes. Ultimate panic buy).

And still have a very decent chance of coming back up, in my opinion. That looks like a huge exodus of talent, but that represents most of the underperforming players 'talent' in our squad.

Out of those, I'd only really be sad to see Janmaat, Krul and potentially Perez leave, but they're not indispensable - Janmaat has been pretty terrible this season, and Perez is a complete fanny who would score goals for fun at Barcelona but struggle playing in the Championship.

If we manage to keep Mbemba, Mitrovic, Shelvey and Townsend that'd be a good start. Lose any of those and we'd be in trouble.

From what I've seen this year, I do think that the group of teams around the top end of the Championship was stronger in 09/10 than this season. If we keep the right players I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be aiming to go straight back up, although a lot does depend upon the manager appointed.

Saivet signing was like Carr was trolling the fans.

And yet he still didn't sign any defenders.

I pretty much agree with your list but would quite like to keep Wijnaldum.

    I wouldn't miss Krul personally.

I think today's Sissoko would still be an important player for you.

It'll be interesting to see what Newcastle do. Like Villa I'd imagine, there'll be a big group of players they'll want to get rid of but might struggle to, and a group of players they'll want to keep but will struggle to.

Going to be scarily competitive next season with the teams coming down and the current teams in the play offs. Glad we managed to go up this season. As Steve Gibson recently said in an interview " I think the challenge of getting out of the championship is tougher than remaining in the premier league ".

Cheers lads, now bugger off to the big time! Hopefully we'll be seeing you soon in one of the leagues. Would be nice to have everyone in the same league again. The day yous got promoted and Sunderland beat Chelsea I had to attend a party in the evening full of mackems and Teessiders; that was fun.

We've only seen that Sissoko a maximum of three times though, and he's been here for four years. Maybe he could be good for a decent side under a good manager, but he's had his time here and wasted it. He's not even a cult hero for his once-in-a-blue-moon amazing performances, everyone just sees him as a lazy c*nt.

Now relegation has sunk in and the imminent announcement that Rafa will be staying, I am quite looking forward to next season.

Some great aways in the fixture. Seriously cannot wait for Leeds away!

I don't think we will have any trouble going straight back up. With or without Rafa.
