Back five and Kane picks itself really. The midfield five really depends on form, who we're playing and who's fit/available too - a luxury (headache?) Poch hasn't had yet. Back up is more than reliable though as we've seen already having had to deal with the absences of Lloris, Walker, Rose, Dembele, Dier and Kane at various points.
It's incredible how much depth we actually have when you think of it, I do have my favourite first 11 and which I think is best but almost every position is covered by a good enough player. The only exceptions are probably Lloris, Dembele and Eriksen. We've done great without Dembele though, but he offers something no other player has, but we're a lot stronger without him than last season, so that problem has been adressed. Eriksen rarely gets the spotlights because he scores a bit less than in his first seasons but he really makes this team tick.
hand on heart. right now I go with.... Kane Son-Alli-Eriksen Dembele-Wanyama Rose-Verts-Alds-Walker Llloris Lamela has been fine but right now son is on fire. dier certainly has nothing to be dropped but wanyama looks like a BEAST right about now. sissoko still has to prove he's a 30M- hes had flashes but hes still a long way from justifying that pricetag. but as SL said it's really a group of about 16 evenly matched players who will rotate throughout the season.
Agree about Wanyama, he's ahead of Dier now for me. Think either Lamela or Sissoko will be in there for their physical and pressing game. Dele, Eriksen and Dembele fighting for two spots.
son is certainly ahead of lamela and/or sissoko at the moment for now. he presses far far more than lamela so not sure why that's an argument. sissoko is physical yes but has shown very literally technically yet.
I don't see Son as in competition with Lamela and/or Sissoko, then they'd be out of position at least. Son's a given on current form. Reckon we'll rotate and see Sissoko or Lamela most games, one of them are likely to play.
................Lloris walker alder verts rose ...............wanyama son dele dembele eriksen .................kane
Was having this conversation yesterday with a United fan when he was saying that he had no idea what their first XI is. I do think that each starting line up should somewhat be affected by who the opposition is, so it's not as simple as having a first XI. Anyway, I'm sure this team has just been posted but if I had to I'd go with the below. Lloris Walker - Toby - Verts - Rose Dembele - Wanyama Son - Dele - Eriksen Kane
Kane (2 of Son/Eriksen/Dele) - Lamela Wanyama - Dembele Rose - Vertonghen - Alderweireld - Walker Lloris
We need a creative midfielder desperately. Too often Eriksen goes missing. When I look across North London at the gooners and seeall the creative midfielders they have and the options it gives them I don't mind admitting a tinge of jealousy.
Exactly what I would go for. Don't understand those that don't rate Lamela. The guy works hard and creates alot of chances.
