The Irishman. Netflix spared no expense in assembling a stellar cast ,but it sadly only produced a glut of tired performances that certainly weren't aided by a jab of CGI botox to supposedly blast away the wrinkles.
There was something really odd about seeing a 76 yr old De Niro laying into the greengrocer with all the menace of an arthritic pensioner

I've not got round to watching all of The Irishman yet - one thing that did throw me off was just how old/frail Joe Pesci looks in the opening 20 or so minutes :/

Bumping this up to an... 8.5/10.

I rewatched it last night and I must say it was nice to be able to sit and appreciate it more. I liked DiCaprio's and Pitt's characters before, but absolutely loved them this time - DiCaprio played it to perfection. I actually acknowledge decent plot development was there throughout and the film was a lot tighter than I originally gave it credit after seeing it in the cinema.

I would still say there were a load of meh characters... but the leads made up for it. I cared enough about them to not give a damn about the creepy hippies or the random Hollywood types.

The only redeeming factor about Netflix's Irishman is Pacino's performance as Hoffa ,his delivery and timing frames perfectly his acting prowess. The comic timing in his interactions with Steven Graham are just a thing of beauty.

Pesci was the best performance for me.

I think his role was undermined ,for me Pesci has always played the loose cannon in the tale ,the enforcer if you like. I dont think he suited the role as a boss. I think portrayals such as Pacino playing the obstinate Hoffa and his love hate relationship with the crime families was just simply tailor made for him.

A film based on a true story about an Alaskan Detective (Nicolas Cage) chasing a serial killer ( John Cusack) in the early 1980's. 7.8/10.
