But to say that if you don’t get this appointment right, you’ll be consigned to midtable mediocrity forever, is a bit melodramatic, don’t you think?

The rest of the top 6 have made poor managerial choices in recent years and quickly recovered.

Wenger lost it years ago but Arsenal were still semi-competitive because they were still signing top players. The worst Arsenal will do next season is qualify for the Europa League and that's even if Arteta isn't up to it.

You could have any idiot in charge and with Aubemeyang scoring every week and plenty of other good players you win more than you lose.

I still can’t believe they managed to go 9 years without a trophy.

Liverpool and Spurs have a solitary League Cup in the last 10 years. United, City and Chelsea have been near enough winning everything.

Right but Spurs and Liverpool have gone through several managers within that time.

Arsenal have stuck with Wenger during that 9 year spell.

What do you consider “the foreseeable future”?

Just seen on sky sports, Arsenal are going to speak to Thierry Henry about the vacant managerial role next week.

Surely they only want his opinion not actually looking at him as a possible replacement for Wenger?

It's Arteta with apparently Cazorla as his assistant.

Wenger just beefed up Arteta's literally non-exsistent managerial credentials

Embarrassing appointment this for a club the size of Arsenal.

Agreed. Ironically it would be a very ‘Wenger’ type appointment!

How hard is it though to get an actual manager? Even someone like Paulo Fonseca would be a better bet than Arteta.

It could be a success yknow. Pep was only a youth coach until Barcelona handed him the job.

Completely different that he had a mega team who didn’t need much doing to it as they had a distinct style of play that Pep was used to.

Arteta has zero experience and Arsenal need a lot of work.

Barca finished 3rd before Pep. Got rid of Ronaldinho and Deco, two influential players. That said, Pep was a youth product, understood the culture and tradition Barcelona represent. Not to mention actually has managerial experience.

Arteta was a panic buy when Arsenal got him and has zero managerial experience to his name. Only thing going for him was that he saw first hand Pep's methods, tactics, and ideas of the game.

That’s what I’m saying Pep did amazing things at Barca but it hardly comparable to this situation.
