Couldn't see a thread. Anyone bothered / watching?

Opening game tonight. Hosts (France) 1-0 up. Looks a bit of a mismatch in truth.

Hoping the tournament is more competitive than this game appears to be.

France certainly will be the favourites - their teams dominate the European stuff I think.

Probably why there is such a big crowd for the first game...

The top teams like Germany/USA and France are decent football sides but guess the danger is there could be too many poor sides in this to make it really interesting...

England will no doubt lose in some heart-breaking manner much like the men do!

Last time we played Scotland it was 6-0!

State of that VAR. 3 minutes from goal to decision.

It's pathetic and needs more clarity.

The last few days have shown we're not looking for clear and obvious errors.

Take as long as you need to find any marginal reason to reverse the decision. How many angles required to rule out that goal? Presumably a few given the time taken to find a stray foot.

Won't have any bearing on tonight's result at least. Complete mismatch.

France is beating South Korea 3-0!

I see the USA or Germany as favorites, though! Japan could squeeze in there too with some luck.

Agree. Every goal is going to be under review the way things are going and every celebration is going to be muted because people will be waiting on the VAR check.

    It's going to be awful.

I'm acceptant that it's coming in regardless but they really need to clear up what decision it is they're making.

The player appears that she was offside but I thought the idea was they were looking to overturn clear and obvious errors.

If the reality is they're only looking to make the correct decision then make that common knowledge and you'll get less pressure / more patience from the fans.

It shouldn't be taking 2-3 minutes to clear up offsides and if it is, I also want that time back. There were only two minutes added on in that half.

Not watched any but just seen a Tweet with women going mental because Alexis Lalas described France v Korea as women against girls, they're saying that's completely disrespectful and he should be sacked.
Sometimes I think women are a lot more touchy than men.

@Dirk how are your girls not losing that at half time?

Both sides with chances but China easily with the best ones.

Expect Germany to be a lot more clinical in the 2nd half.

Just catching a bit of Germany v China. For once I have perfect timing as Germany just scored a screamer!

Good to see a large crowd.

It's always a bit tricky against China for us. In the last 5 matches we won 4-times 1-0 (plus 2-0). So no real surprise that they caused problems again. But eventually we won again and started with a win in this tournament. That's all that counts.

Why is Germany so good at both World Cups? (let's forget last year's men's tournament and Neuer's midfield heroics!)

My god, Thailand are hopeless! Impressive crowd though with a lot of US fans.

    USA! USA! USA!

(and also pay these women equally to the men who will likely shamefully exit the Gold Cup)

Yeah and the women have won 3 World Cups and make more money for the national team than the men.

Allowing a team like Thailand into the competition makes a joke of the tournament,
and won't do much for the Thai team's confidence - being used as cannon-fodder.
