The midfield's job is to retain possession, which they're all very apt at, to be available for possession and to ultimately get the ball to the front three and put them on the front foot. All of the attack are more than capable of getting in behind the defence, and the two wide men will be more than happy having the ball to feet and getting past their full backs to cause problems. Modric is also able to roam in an attacking sense and add some more creativity to the attack.
Defensively we've got a flat back four, and the full-backs will be sticking to their roles rather than having a license to roam forward. They're both more than comfortable in possession though, and this will be useful in linking up with Redondo and Tigana to get us playing forward.
- Drogba comes in up front, with Don Alfredo moving to #10 and Scholes dropping deeper. Drogba's physical presence will offer a unique challenge for his markers, and his hold-up play will benefit Rummenigge, Puskas, and Di Stéfano.
- We will take a collective approach to dealing with Cruyff. Carlos Alberto will pick him up when he drifts wide, but when he drops deeper into more of an AM role Makélélé will get tight to him.
- Redondo, Tigana, and Modric are all wonderful players, but none of them is much of a goal threat. We've got Di Stéfano and Scholes providing that from midfield, plus a front three that's at least as prolific as Cotterill's.
Good luck @Cotterill:49
I had Cotterill here, its close though
Gave this one a draw, but gun to my head I would've given it to Cotter. His front three is superior, and McGrath is a bit below the all-time great level to handle players like Eusebio or Cruyff. However, both Krol and Alberto are a great pair of fullbacks to have against Cruyff and Garrincha, so that helps immensely.
Di Stefano defensive abilities will also come in very handy to help disrupt Redondo's control of the midfield. If there was a vote for red card, I think Scholes might be a prime candidate here.
@Berbasloth9 need your vote here please
Surely this vote counts, no?
