Don't think we've got this sort of thread going? Apologies if we have. But I thought it would be good to have a thread where we can discuss any progress (or the opposite) our youth players are making, instead of having 20 threads for each player.

I'll kick it off with the ever improving Jake Livermore.

He has looked good the occasional time I've seen him, but there's so much competition in the midfield that I just can't see him breaking through this season.

Might aswell throw the loanees in so we know where to look for them.
Dawkins seems pointless as I doubt he has any future here but whilst he's on our books I might aswell throw him in.

Unless the likes of Walker, Livermore, Townsend, Rose, Kane go on loan I think they'll get a few games this season, mostly cup games though I'd have though - aside from Walker who should be our number one right-back.

not meaning to go off on a europa lge tangent but that article shows redknapp intends to use livermore this season and rates him highly. personally every time ive seen him hes looked good but ive heard he flopped in the championshipwith ipswich and leeds (but i never seen this for my own eyes).

redknapp also seems to rate rose & walker highly (an opinion i share). interesting though i cant recall him once saying he rates bostock highly or that he'll use him the EL. bostock is 19 now- surely he shud be kicking on slightly.

I think Bostock's attitude has held him back, been trouble at a couple of clubs I believe. Think Brentford in particular he didn't go down well.

Or I'm thinking of someone else :hmmm

Every time Bostock is taken up in discussions with Redknapp,
he start to talk about the youth that think they've made it
and isn't willing to put in the effort it takes to progress further.

Livermore didn't flop out on loan,
did decent but seldom held down a place in the teams regulary
and didn't stand out as a Premier League player should.
With home grown status I can see him having at least a few years as a squad player.
Will always give his best and is versatile, great physic.

Obika - gone to Yeovil for the thousandth time.

It's at least the third season in a row he's spent time at Yeovil having disappointed at Palace when given a chance in the Championship and likewise at Posh when in either the championship/league one.

If he's showing no progress get rid. No disrespect to Yeovil but if he's still making no step up he has no future here.

    Why does this thread exist?

'Arry rather buy 10 CB's, 5 GK's, 25 CM's and 0 strikers then give a talented youngster of the same position a chance.

    Thread has glue.

    Scout Report - Khumalo

I was at the Madejski today to watch Reading open their season against Millwall. Khumalo started the match alongside Alex Pearce at centre-half, and in all honesty didn't have the best of games.

The Reading defence was generally shaky today regardless. With both full-backs (Harte and Griffin) having one foot in the retirement home and lacking pace, Pearce and Khumalo had to do a lot of covering out wide, which often left gaps in the middle for Millwall to exploit. He looked strong, but definitely needs to work on his positioning; there were a number of times I felt he should have been man-marking, but chose instead to mark an empty space. Sometimes it paid off with him able to pull off a decent interception or two, but on the whole I'd rather have my defenders on the man - let the midfielders pick up the space.

He needs experience, and unfortunately he's being partnered with another inexperienced centre-back in Pearce. Hopefully the introduction of Sonko to the club will provide that on the training pitch, if not competitively.

One disappointment was his inability to win headers today; that's a key part of a centre-back's game, and I hope it's something he'll work on in the coming weeks.

Interesting to have a first hand account. I have to say he didn't feel me with confidence when he played in South Africa. I'm not going to judge him too soon though.

Mason got a fortunate 'assist' yesterday .
To be fair he ran a good distance with the ball so deserved a crack, block deflected on to Sharp's boot and he volleyed it into the net.

As Deadly said, we may as well include all the loanees in here. I'll rename the thread to reflect that...

Just watched a live press conference with Kyle Walker ahead of the England game, and he pretty much said he wants to be the starting RB for Spurs, and if he isn't then he wants to go out on loan again to a PL club.

I thought Jansson had a bit of a future here, why has he only signed a contract extension till 2012? :confused.

Anyway another loanee to keep our eyes on.

Obviously TAFKAP is our chief scout at Reading but might aswell keep updated with the rest. Mentioned Mason above already, it was far from a 'set up' but I'm sure as far as the stats go it's an assist

Oscar Jansson live on Sky Sports 2 now.
Bradford 1-0 up against Leeds at half-time, 45 minutes to keep his clean sheet.

Edit* Scrap that then, it took Leeds 25 seconds of the second half to equalise.
