The famous South African ace "Pat" Pattle was killed over Greece there are a couple of books about him if you can still find them "Ace of aces" and "Pattle, supreme fighter in the air" both by ECR Baker.

Crete by Anthony Beevor is also a decent read.

I found this list too which may be useful, I don't have all that much on the Greek campaign myself, I'm more interested in Malta and the western desert.

What is 'weathering'? Leaving it outside in the rain?

It's making it look as though it really has just been fighting the Germans rather than just come out of the factory. Rust, faded paintwork, scratched paint, oil stains, dust, mud, weaar and tear etc.

Yeah, I believe he actually died in an engagement with some ju-88's that Dahl scraped through! Thanks for the recommendation though!

I find Crete tends to go on too much about what happened after Merkur.

I don't really like Beevor tbh. His Stalingrad is not a patch on Craig's Enemy at the Gates, his Berlin is full of errors, not my favourite historian at all, but Crete isn't that bad.

Wish I had 150 quid spare, this signed cover would look great in my collection. Signed by 14 Luftwaffe aces including 11 BoB pilots :

I have been to the Zeppelinfeld (where the rallies were held) a few times, it's right next to N├╝rnberg's football ground.

Were these one of the state mandated holidays to government built housing complex-esque resorts ? The phrase Kraft durch Freude rings a bell after a recent James May show.

Yes it was the "Strength through joy" official holiday firm, a sort of Nazi Thomas Cook.

It was all to sell the dream wasn't it, of a utopia born out of collective strength and uniformity. In reality all of this was going to fund the huge war machine that was required for the next phase of the plan. I wonder when the German populace realised that they backed a maniac.

There really is an enduring fascination with Nazi Germany. The uniforms, titles, weapons, propaganda etc. It doesn't exist when it comes to the Allies so much, I know far more about individual divisions in the SS or Wehrmacht than I do any British or American formations, even famous ones like Eighth Army.

The more stylish side clearly lost.
