    Kaiserslautern vs Schalke 4-1
    Hannover 96 vs Nürnberg 3-0

LOL, Schalke. Now only 3pts away from the relegation spot. I'm happy for FCK, though, passed Schalke in the standings now and up to 14th.

    Halle vs Mannheim 1-4

Important away win for Mannheim in this relegation battle. Now they could close the gap to #16 Halle to 1pt (although one match more played. 16th means safety in 3.Liga, unlike 1./2.BL)

Although Leverkusen only got a 0-0 at home against Gladbach, they're still unbeaten. Now 28 matches in all competitions. Unique and a new record in German Football. (In 2.Bundesliga St.Pauli is actually 26 matches unbeaten (if I remember it right), last loss was against....HSV :D )

    ************************

I shouldn't do this anymore, laughing at other clubs because as soon as I do it, it comes right back and "bites me in the arse" :D

    HSV vs KSC 3-4.

Was still eating my pre-match bratwurst in the stands (a bit late because of the queue) and we were already 0-2 behind after 5 minutes. Unbelievable, amateurish. Nothing has happened in the winter break in defence work it seems. Same old, same old shit show at the back. I can't stand it anymore, yes the coach is not responsible for individual errors but he's responsible for the playing style, the risky playing style. HSV always score goals but not always we can score so many as we give away through unconcentration or lazy playing style in the back.
We got back with 2 goals, also with a double goal in the 33/35.minute and you begin to think that now everything works for us. Then you come out for the 2nd half and exactly the same happens again, 46th minute 2-3 again sloppy. Again equalizing 3-3 and again the KSC goal for the 3-4 win. Rollercoaster football over and over, 2-0 win at Schalke, 3-4 loss at home.....Hertha BSC next. Halleluja.

If you see how professional St.Pauli wins at Düsseldorf then you have to applaud them. Could be the first time since 1953/54 that St.Pauli is better placed than HSV at season's end :enditall

    I'm done here. Bye :bye

Thing is I really didn't want Sechzig to go up and be the Zwei's whipping boys which would have happened in my humble opinion. Of course it's all ifs and buts but reckon the club needs a couple of more seasons in the Drei to make a serious promotion push for the Zwei. The fans are being patient if progress is made. This season is disappointing but if this enables us to regroup and make a promotion push next season then it'll be worh it.

Me too. He had a great couple of seasons there. I'm positive he'll manage both clubs sometime in the next decade.

Quarterfinals in the DFB Pokal. The first 2 this week, the last 2 next week.

Congrats, Fortuna, for reaching the semi-final again, after 28 years of waiting.

Fortuna (German Champion 1933) won the DFB Pokal in 1979 and 1980
(in 1979 they even made it into the European Cup Winners Cup Final but they lost dramatically 3-4 in extra time against Barcelona. What a great team they had in that era)

Last weekend Fortuna lost the 2.Bundesliga match 1-2 at home against St.Pauli, 3 days later in Hamburg they could take "revenge". 1-1 after normal time, so extra time. And here Fortuna scored in the 99th after the Pauli Goalie couldn't secure the ball but St.Pauli could again equalise in the last second (120 +1st min), Penalty shootout and here St.Pauli's best player Marcel Hartel (who already scored the 1-1 penalty in the match) failed 2-times (1st penalty had to be shot again because the Fortuna Goalie didn't stand on the line).

    Ha, bad luck Marcel
Although St.Pauli lost for the first time in this season the match will be counted as a draw in the statistics because the loss was in penalty shootout.

Today the other 2.Bundesliga quarterfinal Hertha vs FCK. Hopefully FCK will reach the semi-final (they also were in the semi-final in 1996, like Fortuna, but unlike them FCK then won the DFB Pokal 1996 (ironically their semi-final 1996 was a 1-0 against......Bayer Leverkusen. Could be the same match this time if FCK advances)

edit: If you might be interested: Kaiserslautern is in the semi-final. 3-1 away win in Berlin

Top 2 win again. Harry Kane scores again.

Potentially already a title decider next week.

I don't think that it's already a title decider next week. Even if Leverkusen wins it, they would be "only" 5 pts ahead with (then) 13 matches to play. So plenty of points still to gain.

And if Leverkusen loses it, then Bayern is only 1 pt ahead. Anyway, I hope for a Leverkusen win next week (or at least a draw). I have nothing against Bayern but I don't want them to win a "dozen in a row".

btw: Best club in the "Rückrunde" (2nd half of the season) is actually...... Werder Bremen :eeek 9 pts from the 3 matches so far. 2nd is Dortmund with 7 pts and Bayer Leverkusen also with 7pts. Now even a ECL/EL spot is possible for Bremen

    ****************
St.Pauli won the top match #1vs #2 against Fürth with 3-2 at the Millerntor and are now 5 pts clear at the top. Holstein Kiel got a stoppage time equalizer (90+5th min) at Magdeburg and is 3rd.

    New 2nd is...HSV, again. :bounce:

    Hertha BSC vs HSV 1-2

60.000 at the Olympiastadion (20.000 HSV fans made the journey to Berlin).

Weird game. Had to be stopped for over 30 minutes in the 2nd half because the Hertha Fans threw hundreds of Tennisballs onto the field. Similar happened in many stadiums in the last weeks,

it's a protest of the fans against the plans of the DFL to bring in Investors for the league. Here they "overdrew" it a bit. The protests are ok but here the match was on the brink to be cancelled. After 20 minutes of waiting that the throwing stops the referee decided to send both team into the cabins. After another 12 minutes they came out again and the referee made it clear that he would cancel the match if the tennisball throwing would start again. Thankfully this didn't happen again.
(btw in the first half the HSV fans threw the tennisballs, too, but not so long as the Hertha fans)

HSV player Immanuel Pherai kicks a tennisball :D

Totally forgot to congratulate SV Werder Bremen. Today, February 4th, the club celebrates its 125th anniversary.

One of my favourite "Werderaner", Bremen stadium announcer, Arnd Zeigler, has written a nice article on kicker.de about his lifelong love for this club, writing about his first ever match at a (then) rotten Weserstadion in 1976 (nowadays its a beauty, though), about the first relegation to 2.Bundesliga in1980 and suddenly playing against clubs like Erkenschwick, Lüdenscheid and Solingen (all 3 clubs are now in the lower tiers of German football). Nice hommage, Arnd.

Werders wunderbare Welt (google translate is your friend :D )

Werder is HSV's archrival (besides St.Pauli) but although I'm not their fan I always respected their own way to stay alive in the "shark pond" of professional football. "Be yourself" was always their motto. I hope we'll see a "Nord-Derby" soon again in the 1.Bundesliga. See you next season in the Volkspark!

This is the special Werder Shirt for the 125th anniversary:

So, enough of my monologues here!

Never felt like either club hated each other. Bremen look like a laid-back club who can't be bothered with a rivalry while Hamburg loathe St Pauli (especially when they get beaten by them which hasn't happened a lot in history). Dunno, don't feel like it's a particularly bitter rivalry.

    But that's me.

yes, that's you. In Game of Thrones one would say "You know nothing, Jon Snow" ;)

You're excused because you don't live here so you can't know much about the rivalry between the 2 clubs (and especially the rivalry between Bremen and Hamburg, the 2 biggest cities in Northern Germany (and cities of the traditional Hanse of the middle ages). Free Cities both and not without a reason are both cities the only ones in Germany who are also a federal state in Germany (plus our Capital Berlin, of course).

The rivalry between both club was normal for most of its existence until 1982 when a tragedy happened, the death of 17year old Werder Fan Adrian Maleika who wanted to visit the match but got a stone at the head thrown by HSV Hooligans and was so severely injured that he died later in Hospital.

Since then many matches between both clubs were classified as "high risk" football matches by the police which means additional police forces not only in the stadium but also on the way to the stadium.

    Anyway, BTT:

Leipzig won today the first match of the Rückrunde after 3 losses in a row, 2-0 at home against Union Berlin. Wolfsburg vs Hoffenheim 2-2, that's the 4th draw in a row for the Wölfe.

In 2.Bundesliga Düsseldorf lost 3-4 at Paderborn, that's good for HSV. And newcomer SV Elversberg won 2-1 against FCK and is still the surprise team in 2.Bundesliga (much like their pendant in the 1.Bundesliga, Heidenheim. Both teams play their first ever season in the respective league and both are placed in midfield. Kudos :duke)

    edit:

Rivalries shouldn't be about Hate (I know that not all think the same)
Tbh the word "hate" isn't in my vocabulary when talking about football rivalry.
I respect every club even Werder or St.Pauli, but that doesn't mean I want them to win against my club.
But it's just that, football, nothing more. It's already too much hate in the world we don't need that in sports. Support your club but don't hate others who support the opponent, that's always my motto.

Well that was close! Didn't watch the game as the company broadcasting it is openly anti-PSG (L'Equipe) so I refuse to give money to them but got the right result. Onwards and upwards towards a trophy hopefully.

Sechzig also won vs Essen (you could say they ate their opponent). A good evening for me.

I watched it and have to say that it was a good cup fight. Stuttgart could've won the match, too, but actually Leverkusen has the luck on their side.
The Schwaben were 2-times ahead (0-1, 1-2) but Leverkusen could always equalize.

3rd time in the last few matches that they scored the deciding goal in the 90th minute (or beyond). Back then this was "Bayern's speciality" those late goals. Fingers crossed that Bayer's (without n) luck won't run out just in the important match Saturday. :hopefully 30th unbeaten match in all competitions.

Wednesday now the last quarterfinal 1.FC Saarbrücken vs Borussia Mönchengladbach. Will the Saarländer do it 3-times in a row, eliminating a Bundesliga side (after Bayern and Frankfurt)?

    *******************

edit: No quarterfinal match on Wednesday. Match had to be cancelled because of raining all the day and the pitch in the Ludwigspark was unplayable.

Unbelievable, tbh. Saarbrücken's Ludwigparkstadion, which was built in 1953 (record crowd for the stadium was 53.000 which is 50% more than the original capacity of 35.000) was rebuilt from 2018-2021 into a fooball-only stadium (actual capacity: 16.000 which is ok for a 3rd tier side).

But the costs went higher and higher and seemingly there was no money left for a good pitch and drainage (which, according to the kicker-article below would cost only 200.000 €).
It's not the first time that matches had to be cancelled due to water on the pitch. Embarrassing.

Ironically just yesterday the City of Saarbrücken had approved that a new pitch and a drainage should be installed (in the summer break).

The helpers did everything that the match could be played but the referee cancelled the match 10 minutes before the beginning.

Not so "brilliant" were their banners, though. Disgusting the "Fadenkreuz (Crosshair?)" Banner of '96 Boss Martin Kind. Reminded me of a similar one a few years ago in Hoffenheim with the (then) owner Dietmar Hopp. This is not acceptable from the 96 Fans and for the 2nd time in a row a HSV match was on the brink of cancellation.
Last weekend it was the tennisball throwing by Hertha Fans and now the tasteless banners of the 96 Fans. Referee stopped again the match for minutes and this was one of the longest matches (in regular time) that I witnessed live in the Volkspark. 16 minutes overtime.:enditall

Anyway, I'm not only in a pissy mood because of this but also about the same old shit defence. 2nd time in a row we lost a home match with 3-4. Scoring 3 goals at home and not getting anything. :slap:

At first we did win every home match (8 in a row, a club record) and now we lose 3 in a row. We couldn't win anything away and now we are winning 2 in a row away. From one extreme to the other. The 2 red cards are helping "extremely" /s

The HSV people in "authority" have to act now and sack Coach Tim Walter immediately.
2 1/2 years of this is enough. There are better coaches available who have vast experience in 1. and 2. Bundesliga.

I'm really eager about Bayer-Bayern tonight, but nervous too. Leverkusen are on an unbeaten run of almost 30 games, and although it was correctly pointed out that they didn't play particularly well for many of their latest wins, the fact that they still did the necessary, even in the last second, to win the games, is making the Werkself feel super. Now that it's in the BayArena, I guess it'll take more than the lousy football Bayern have played so far to remind Vizekusen that they never win the league.

No clue what Neuer was doing going up for the corner there, it's 2-0 and the ref will blow up in about 20 seconds anyway. Now 3-0 down because the goal was left empty.
