To be fair, overrated players dont usually bang in 286 goals in 378 games, 46 in 77 internationals, all by the age of 25
yeah, just looked up the PL standings of 2004/05 and you're right. Liverpool was also 5th back then and won the CL. Good omen Yes, Marco deserves it! He'll leave Borussia after 12 years at the end of the season. He had so much bad luck in his career that a CL win would be great. Fingers crossed btw: Last time Dortmund won the CL was in 1997 and that was also the year where a Bundesliga club won the UEFA Cup (Schalke btw). Another omen (for Bayer Leverkusen)?
Didn't fancy Wembley anyway. Too expensive, already been & got a marathon to run the next day in Normandy. My team lost but I won big last night! Men vs boys last night. Our lack of aura and composure showed while Dortmund didn't even get out of 1st gear. If the yellows had wanted a 3-0 away win, they could have achieved that no problem but since they knew we had zero bottle in front of goal why bother? Fair dos. Lots of disappointed faces last night and saw a couple of grown men with moist eyes but let's not kid ourselves, we only made it this far thanks to a very easy draw in the 2nd KO stage and the Araujo red card. That's it. The fact that we bow out at the last step before the final does hurt I guess but truth be told we never should have gottent that far in the first place. I'd rather we got a reality check in the semi rather than spend 1000€ in London to get dicked 0-5 by RM (or, worse, lose to Bayern. AGAIN.). Dortmund have my full support whoever they play in the final. They'll lose but they have my full support.
Tbf, Rafa's style of football two deep lines of 4, usually with somebody falling back to make the midfield a 5, then hitting it long in the counter, was perfect for playing in the CL against better sides, who would leave room at the back. Being physical was also the fad at the time, so I think a lot of teams suffered technically, as big powerful workhorses were preferred over actual footballers, which meant more attack minded teams would struggle to break defensive minded teams down.
Where they beat an Italian team (Inter) That is a long time isn't it - mind you guess Sevilla have won most of them since! Sorry just meant in terms of the run despite only being 5th in the league. I agree you seemed to be well set up for the competition though.
I won't see the game tonight but it'd be really nice to go and see Bayern (Kane / Dier) knock Real out tonight. Think Real are going to be too strong for Bayern in Madrid but hopefully Bayern pull out a performance from somewhere. I think Dortmund v Bayern will also make for a better final.
Tbf Mbappe plays in a farmers league. If he can score at Stoke on a Tuesday night ( has to be a Tuesday ) in December then he is one of the greats. Until then he is def over rated. PSG so unlucky hitting the frame of the goal so many times. Please, please Bayern knock Real out.
In the top 10 all time CL/European Cup scorers too. And he's got 20 goals in 28 knockout games. I appreciate the arguments about him playing in France but you only have to look at his record in the Champions League to see his quality. He's not the only big personality at PSG to not win a CL. Messi, Neymar, Ibrahimovic, Cavani, Di Maria...
played a management game last two nights, had won all cups and the league going into the Champions League final, all in my first season, and guess which effers beat me all too comfortably in the final....... (by comfortably I mean loaded dice, not they should have just the game I'm sure tips the balance based on who a side is as much as quality of the players on show)
