Yeah same, World of Sport / Grandstand was a regular Saturday afternoon viewing in my youth. Used to have to wait till 4.40 for the videoprinter to come on as there was no text, teletext, etc back then. R.I.P Dickie.
The Saturday afternoons of my childhood with World Of Sport, Grandstand were lovely then on to Knight Rider / The A Team / Airwolf Happy times
Aye the kids of today are spoilt. Standing outside Rumbelows waiting for the scores to come on the tellies in the display window.
I'm too young to have watched Dickie Davies in World of Sport's heyday, except via YouTube, but you only need to watch a few minutes to realise he was seriously good at what he did. You don't last for as long as he did in a job like that, in an age when presenters and commentators were far more recognisable than they are now, if you're not. The warmth of the tributes that have been paid to him by current broadcasters that I hugely admire, (people like Jeff Stelling, Mark Pougatch, Gabby Logan and his friend and former colleague Jim Rosenthal who broke the news last night) say it all for me.
Never mind Airwolf which was pants anyway. Dukes Of Hazard was the best. Daisy Duke......what could have been.
Very much so Ohh I forgot Dukes Of Hazard - also awesome Notable exceptions to the great Saturday evening viewing - Streethawk - just awful - Bring 'em back alive (with Bruce Boxtleiner) - this really was 24 carat gold shyte
I’m old enough to remember Grizzly Adams and Kung Fu. The latter of which inspired the nation to attain a million yellow belts and not much else..
Not every death is a vaccine death, obviously. the average life expectancy is about 79 I believe, although the rich ought to surpass this more often than not given they have all the advantages of the best foods and healthcare possible. Of course, much more worrying is the continuing trend of excess deaths in the younger age groups, for which we have been given no explanation, and which isn't being covered anywhere near as much as it should.
How could I forget those two loved Grizzly Adams - always found Kung Fu a bit creepy the whole grasshopper walking on toilet paper thing
Ahh reading through this is bringing back some childhood memories, checking teletext for the football scores and having to wait for the page to go back round until your team was back on the screen. I’ve got a vague memory of Terry and June being on around Saturday tea time too can anybody else remember that?
