Wild rumor that leaked season 2 writing has Morgoth as Tom Bombadile and Ungoliant being Goldberry

I have zero faith anyone they would cast could capture the sheer presence of Tom Bombadil. There is a reason Peter Jackson didn't go near him for the original trilogy.

Yeah Jackson said he disagreed with the whole Tom Bombadil inclusion from the beginning as it served no purpose to the plot. Still. Will be wild to see if those rumors come to fruition.

i was just speaking to someone the other day about tom bombadil and my wish for a cameo in the extended cuts of the original trilogy. funny to hear jackson didn't think a fan favorite was necessary because it didn't serve any purpose to the plot, but made up a character for a romance subplot in the hobbit trilogy. studios loves a romance, doesn't it?

    I'd forgotten this abomination existed.
Remember hearing about Jackson cutting together all the unused footage from the LOTR trilogy as a mini series for the 25th anniversary which will be next year, would love to see that.

Each to their own. I liked it had a few gripes with it but looking forward to season 2.

Trouble is it will always be compared to the movies. Some may say that's an unfair standard but **** me, they spent a billion quid on it...and if you can't meet that standard then don't even take on the challenge.

Yeah I get you but the movies are masterpieces so it would be hard to meet that level even with the crazy budget. I think it has some flaws but still looking forward to season 2 and them introducing more book characters.

Good writing based on amazing writing gives a platform for the 3 movies. There probably a 4th movie left behind by Jackson even.

Rings of power is not based on amazing writing, it's based on lore etc .It then doesn't have a brilliant bit of work to adapt it as i felt it didn't even follow the lore properly and one season to get where they got to was in one way rushed

    Like why?

They could have done a movie based on The Silmarillion or something else but we get a movie based on a character that literally melted last time we saw him...?? I am presuming it's a prequel of some sort my interest is low I can't lie.

It's based on Gandalf sending Aragorn to find Gollum. There's 17 years between Bilbo's birthday, and Frodo leaving the Shire (the films are awful at showing how much time has passed, especially at this point), so it will fall between that. I think it is only when Gandalf realises the ring could be the one ring, that he sends Aragorn off, so it is likely set within a couple of years of Frodo setting out from Hobbiton.

Or they de-age him. Not sure anyone else could play him.

Yeah same. Could see them using the de-age thing with McKellen to play Gandalf.

Would kill for a movie based after the events of LOTR though all the cast are still in good shape so would be pretty easy to do tbh.

****ing thrilled that we are getting a LOTR project with Peter Jackson on board, but why take us back to The War of the Ring timeline? It's been done and I don't want anything tarnishing the original trilogy's masterpiece of a legacy. There is an endless pit of characters and stories they could choose from. Kenji Kamiyama for instance made the War of the Rohirm film that comes out later this year which goes over the story of Helm Hammerhand.

The Silmarillion adaptation or any stories during that timeline would've been incredibly expensive to make I reckon. There's probably a reason the Amazon series only touched on it. Can you imagine the constant screenplay of wars with a shit ton of dragons, werewolves, monsters, and balrogs?

In my opinion the perfect story for Peter Jackson to do would've been the wars of the Witch King & Arnor.

I have an idea. They could have a scene at the start with an old Viggo as king reading some texture of the civil war in Arnor which then led to its wars with the Witch King. Then title card. :eyemouth:
