I'd presume this would be to fill in the gaps around when golem tells frodo about being captured by mordor and tortured But yeah it feels like marvel universe type stuff. The last good movie like this would be how rogue 1 pulled a line out of a new hope and fleshed out an entire movie which was better than most star wars efforts.
In fairness the working title is "hunt for gollum" which means it could be centred around Gandalf, Aragorn and potentially Legolas rather than Gollum himself.
With Serkis on board I can't imagine it not being focused around Gollum. Just feels like a waste of an opportunity with Peter Jackson.
Serkis is directing though, he isn't going to be able to do that if he's in the motion capture get up for the majority of filming.
Because in Fellowship there's a gap of years after Bilbos party where Gandalf enlists others to help find Gollum as the last person who had the ring.
Oh right. So we will have a wizard in grey trying to prevent he's not nearly 90 and the system of an old man who really let go try be aragon but younger aragon? The prequel, as badly as its been done makes more sense that going here. They are going to have to recast the whole thing
That's why i wouldn't bother watching it as it would be even worse than The Hobbit which was total bollocks and having Martin Freeman as Bilbo didn't help.
They probably will have to recast which is why I don't hold out much hope either. Freeman was one of the redeeming features of the Hobbit movies for me.
Half the dwarves were utterly ridiculous but I felt freeman played bilbo well. A single movie stretched to three plus a needless legolas appearance
Honestly there's so much material there to draw from. Only reason they're going back to that era is because the Rings of Power was so poorly received.
Was it? Thought it was good myself looking forward to season 2. Critics didn't think it was too bad too.
