Alright Lads, I've got a load of logs in the back garden which I need to chop up for firewood for the winter. I'd say they range from 6 inches to 10 inches in diameter. I tried using an axe but I'm chopping through the grain and so it had absolutely zero effect aside from chipping the bark and scarring a little. I see Argos sell chainsaws... starting from £60... my question is would a £60 chainsaw be okay for cutting logs this size? If anyone has any experience and can give advice I'd be grateful. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7304761.htm Thanks, Charles
The cheaper ones will go through bone ok, but can clog up with flesh and gristle. At the end of the day, you should spend as much as you can. After all, you get what you pay for!
Don't buy cheap shit, if you buy it cheap, you'll buy it twice. Have you considered hiring a chainsaw from HSS/Speedy Hire? or paying someone to do it?
I have got an old Black and Decker one that i used to dispose of an ex and it cut through bone. Little bit of blood on it but I can clean that off if you want it.
Hire a chainsaw for a day. You'll get a good quality one that's been tried and tested. Try to find an independent tool hire though, HSS are steep.
A thread on FF entitled "Advice on buying a chainsaw" and you're expecting 100% genuine advice with no piss-taking
Marcel Desailly? The one who has an issue with the postman wiping his penis on his mail? This thread isn't ridiculous though. It's just advice on buying a tool he has no experience with. People are just getting excited because it's a chainsaw. It seems most can't see past horror movies and realise that they are an actual tool.
My 2 front teeth are f*cking gigantic in size, i could bite through them if you want? I'll do it all for £40.
It's not ridiculous I just found it a bit random I saw the thread title in the Latest Posts bit and fully expected it to be some E2310 thread.
http://www.bosch-garden.com/gb/en/garden-tools/garden-tools/chainsaws-199968.jsp I have a B&D hedge trimmer which I thought did the job OK then my former girlfriend proposed to use the one her father owned it was a Bosch took half the time and effort...Not cheap but bloody efficient at getting the job done...Don't forget to buy the ear covers and protective eye goggles...
Love this thread title. I can't offer any useful advice though. I wouldn't dare use a chainsaw, too accident-prone.
