Right, first of all, it isn't all doom and gloom. Alan Pardew might not be the fanfare appointment you might have been hoping for after the shock and frankly scandalous sacking of Chris Hughton, but I for one don't think he is as bad an appointment as some might. I was shocked by it, yes, but that doesn't mean Pardew isn't capable. After watching Saints for nearly 20 years, I can tell you categorically that Pardew was a major cog last year in my most enjoyable ever season. So here are my honest and frank thoughts about his good and bad points. Take from it what you will. Pros:- - Signings. All the signings he made for us improved our team. Not a duff one amongst them. - Deadwood. Quickly identified the dead wood in our squad and moved it on. - Winning. Turned us from a team with a losing mentality to one with a winning mentality. - Cups. Decent record in cup games. - Motivation. Players always gave it their all. Cons:- - Negative. Way too negative at times. Especially away from home. - Hoof. Unattractive football. - Substitutions. Some managers have a knack of this. Pardew doesn't. Always seemed to make them too late. - Plan B. He never has one. Barely ever changed formation/shape when being beaten. - Attitude. Rubs people up the wrong way. Certainly not the "Yes man" that some geordies are expecting. I would urge you to get behind him, no matter what you think of Ashley, your season could soon come undone if you don't stick together. Trust me. I know. He certainly isn't the best tactician around, but I think he is more than capable of doing a job. For me, there are worse managers in the Premier League. I genuinely wish him all the best.
p.s. be weary of other Saints fans. There are two types. 1. Those who have completely forgotten last season and are now slagging Pardew off in every aspect. 2. Those who are still gutted he was sacked and won't have a word said against him. I hope I have given you somewhere inbetween.
Be intrested to see a Charlton fans view on Pardew , dont know any personally but i doubt it will be very complementary, somehow . And as for Pardews time at Saints, did ok last season, but when he left them this season they were at the bottom of L1,
He's not the fans choice, but myself and most true Newcastle fans will get behind him. After all, we've nothing against him. And those who boo'ed him yesterday were just being pathetic. Obviosuly I hope he does well. He has PL experience so knows what its about. Didn't he take West Ham to a mid-table finish the same season he got them to the FA Cup final ? thats not bad going.
And he won us the JPT Football league trophy...not bigfish, but hey we were happy! Great day out at wembley and all not to mention a 4-1 win! Pardew will be fine for you.
True. And we too were livid at the treatment of a good honourable and decent bloke (the f******g media still tried to blame Newcastle fans though, notice) But life goes on. An interesting nread and a good summing up. I like the good signings and getting shot of deadwood parts. We have deadwood OK, and some promising kids some of whom need a kick up the rear (Nile Ranger for instance) Hughton bought some good ones - Tiote and Ben Arfa - who DeJong broke his leg in two places with a rash tackle and FA allowed him to get away with it - yet punishes anything done by a Newcastle player, and some not so good signings(James Perch for instance)
Good interview with him here, comes across well and talks some sense http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00d6ckc/Total_Sport_26_01_2011/ 1:01:00 in To be fair to him, he's started well and we've put in some good performances. If it wasn't for 2 injury time equalisers, we could be already have forgotten about any chance of relegation and be concentrating on nicking a Euro spot. Not bad considering he's been without a few of our best players in his stint as well. Looks promising
I agree with this TBH, plus he is a bit of an arrogant c*nt, allways has been by all reports and i disliked him before he came to saints.
It's only been 6 weeks but looking at the cons on crstig's list, we've yet to see any. You could say his team selection and subs were dubious against Stevenage but other than that, he's got it right most times. Wants to play two strikers and attack teams both home and away. Until he's had a pre-season after a transfer window, it's too early to judge but he's ridden what could have been a very rough ride (after the shambolic Hughton sacking) remarkably well.

His record is quite good so far. I like it but there is one thing, he. Seems like a media hoar. Every day he comes out with something different.
Let's not get too carried away - Pardew is Ashley's bitch. He'll defend Ashley's broken mentality until the cows come home. We haven't strengthened yet. Why? Cos Ashley thinks we're probably safe to finish at least 4th bottom.
Didn't hear much from Pardew yesterday. We know that he wasn't going to allow Carroll to be sold - he made it clear to us that one of the reason's he'd become our manager was with that condition. Obviously now that Ashley has clearly broken the terms of Pardew's contract, Pardew can follow Keegan's example that his job was made untenable by owner interference that broke the contract, thereby triggering constructive dismissal. I'm sure Alan Pardew will speak out to confirm this later today.
