What’s the deal with a Bremen brewery manufacturing St Pauli Girl when that name is more famously associated with Hamburg ?
Takes me back to drifting away from the Reeperbahn and ending up in an empty bar , all quiet then loads of lads just stood outside looking a bit pissed off, landlord told us wait here, police came gave us escort back and told us theyll leave us alone as long as stay in Reeperbahn, great weekend in Hamburg for a Keegan inspired friendly in 2002, went back in 2007 just for a non football weekend
tbh I never heard of "St.Pauli Girl" Beer before. Not that I know all the German beers, estimates say there are over 5,000 different beers in Germany, but the word "Girl" after St. Pauli made me suspect it might be an export beer, for example, for the American market. And Wikipedia confirmed it... St. Pauli Girl - Wikipedia I read here that the (original) St.Pauli brewery is near the (former) St.Paul's (without "i") friary in Bremen. That's where the name comes from apparently, not the Hamburg district Drifting away from the Reeperbahn? Nice description
I quite like Hamburg but the Reeperbahn is a tacky tourist trap, a shithole, just like the Oktoberfest in Munich
If this tournament ends up as forgettable as some have opined in this forum, then an excellent trivia question in 10 years time will be: Where did 17-year Bayern star Thomas Müller play his final match for the club? How many Germans (how many Bavarians?) will have any clue?
I've already forgotten where it was . But I think his last match for Bayern will be more remembered here for what has happened. Like: "Wasn't that the game where a 100 kg block fell on Musiala's leg and broke his fibula?" Not officially, yet. As far as I know he'd still like to play if the right offer comes, but he certainly won't be playing for another German club, so maybe as I suggested a club in the MLS. He could learn a second language, after bairisch
FC Bayern has over 410.000 members, so I'm rather proud of my number. This year I get the golden badge, a few goodies AND a free ticket for a home game. Love it !
@zippy Nice from Bayern for longstanding members. Yes, like for the other european leagues here. ******************** Some HSV news: We lost our Captain Ludovit Reis to Champions League club, FC Brügge. That's a big blow, tbh. Also our top scorer (and also 2.Bundesliga top scorer) Davie Selke left for Turkish club, Basaksehir(?) after HSV denied him the desired contract extension (with big increase, of course). And, imo, that's the right decision. Selke was important in the last season after our regular Striker Robert Glatzel was out for months. But at HSV he had his best season and scored 22 goals in 30 matches. In the 1.Bundesliga, though, he was less effective so far, played already for Leipzig, Werder Bremen, Köln and Hertha BSC and never scored more than 10-11 per season (e.g at Hertha he scored 19 goals in 114 games). So a bit like all-time 2.Bundesliga Top scorer Simon Terodde who scored like nothing in 2.BL but not in 1.BL. New so far are: Remberg from relegated Holstein Kiel, Nickname "Rambo" (that gives you a guess ) Argentinian Capaldo from Austrian Champion Salzburg French Philippe, from Eintracht Braunschweig (their by far best player last season) and lately Danish Yussuf Poulsen from RB Leipzig where he played since 2013 so he made all the way up with Leipzig from the lower division into the 1.Bundesliga. But he lost his place in the starting lineup there and wanted to play regularly (and so maintain his place in the Danish team for next years World Cup). kicker.de reported that he earned 7m € at RB Leipzig. At HSV he won't get anything near that tbh so it seems he gives up a lot of money for this. I'm especially excited about Rayan Philippe. Sad for Eintracht that HSV again lured their best player away (like with Immanuel Pherai 2 years ago) but good for HSV.
What do you mean? You didn't like it (the transfer of Davie Selke) or didn't like him? Imo, Davie Selke gone is no loss. We have a similar player in Robert Glatzel and in 1.Bundesliga HSV has to adopt its playing style. We need more flexible attacker (as valuable as Selke was last season, he was a one-dimensional player) After Uwe Seeler and Kevin Keegan he's 3rd in my top10 all time favourite HSV players. His "Bananenflanken" were legendary. btw: Still 2nd in most appearances in 1.Bundesliga (581) behind Karl-Heinz "Charly" Körbel (602)
Nice one, loyalty should be rewarded. What game are you planning on doing? Der Klassiker in mid-October?
Also the second Offer, 50 Mio. + 5 Mio. Bonus from Bayern for Woltemade, VfB Stuttgart, reject these. Woltemade has a contract with 2028. Stuttgart requests to Report 80-100 Millionen.
With my trip to Switzerland, I didn't think that tickets will go on sale so soon for the Pokal so no Sonenhof GroSSaspach or Engers for me. It'll be Lotte/Freiburg on the Saturday and Homburg on the sunday. Will try to squeeze in Vik Köln and possibly a second visit to Bielefeld on the Friday. Bring it!
