Whilst you and I haven't always seen eye to eye, there can be absolutely no argument over this list.

Did you ever get to see them live Kiz? I remember going to The Marquee to see them when Vivid was released. Cult Of Personality & Middleman are two great songs.

Nice. Can't argue with a list like that. I've wanted to give Mayfield a go for ages, but never gotten round to it.

Right now I'd say something like (limited to one album per artist):

    1. Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
    2. Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
    3. The Magnetic Fields - Distant Plastic Trees/The Wayward Bus
    4. Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
    5. Neil Young - On the Beach
    6. Elliott Smith - Roman Candle
    7. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
    8. Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway
    9. A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
    10. John Coltrane - My Favourite Things

Distant Plastic Trees/The Wayward Bus is technically a compilation of two albums, but I have it on one CD and always listen to it as one album, so I'm counting it.

    Wow, this has been hard.

    In descending order.

    10. Linkin Park - Minutes To Midnight
    9. Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
    8. Brand New - Deja Entendu
    7. Queen - A Night At The Opera
    6. Green Day - Dookie
    5. Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against the Machine
    4. Jeff Buckley - Grace
2=. Biffy Clyro - The Vertigo of Bliss
2=. Biffy Clyro - Infinity Land

    1. Foo Fighters - The Colour and The Shape

I was going to keep it to one album per artist, but I really can't separate the 2 Biffy albums. Surprised myself that Nevermind isn't in there, I actually tried to put it in somewhere when I realised but couldn't bring myself to oust one of the others.

Also tvr, never had you pegged as much of a Funeral For A Friend fan?

    10. Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty
    9. Charles Mingus - Cumbria & Jazz Fusion
    8. A Day To Remember - For Those Who Have Heart
    7. Coldplay - X & Y
    6. Transit - Keep This To Yourself
    5. The Beatles - Please Please Me
    4. Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean
    3. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
    2. A Day To Remember - And Their Name Was Treason
    1. Enter Shikari - Take TO The Skies

The top three are probably the only one's which would still be there if I was asked the same question in a months time.

I don't think it has much. I'd put Revolver, Tago Mago, The Man-Machine, The Velvet Underground & Nico, Highway 61 Revisited, Bitches Brew and Pink Moon all up there.

Just because they've never come up in any sort of musical conversation we've had, and I hadn't noticed them appear in your top artists on last.fm (maybe an oversight from me). Not that there is anything wrong with it, it just surprised me that an album of theirs was your number one. I think I prefer Tales Don't Tell Themselves and Hours though personally, although I've not listened to any of them for ages.

It was the first album I ever loved, and as I've grown up and my musical tastes changed it's the one album I never out-grew. I've played it to near-death though. Casually... is probably their best album, and since then they've just steadily declined. Hours is a good and all, but it's a very American-ised abum, very streamlined, very polished, and completely devoid of those 90s-influenced melodic bridges that Casually had, that made Escape Artists Never Die, Bend Your Arms To Look Like Wings and Novella so special.
