Avoided Norwood Junction so no idea if anything went on there, but coming via Clapham to Selhurst all fans were good as gold and not one single sign of trouble. Genuinely calmer than most league games. The foul on Mateta was absolutely horrendous and I've got no idea how Michael Oliver didn't immediately blow up. In fact he quite clearly waved it away as to say it was a fair challenge. Genuinely mind boggling refereeing and the sort of decision that should see him demoted for some time. As for the Millwall 'keeper, I'm not having all this 'Ban him for months' stuff. It was a reckless, mis-timed challenge but I bet he feels like shit now having seen the damage he's done. I'd like to think he's reached out to Mateta since. We were decent after that and looked like running away with it, but I can only assume the news of Mateta being taken off to hospital when the players came in at HT affected them mentally. We looked totally off it in the second half and on another day Milwall may have nicked a second. Thankfully we killed it off towards the end and could enjoy the last 10 mins, but the difference in the players' demeanour was obvious. Mateta's posted this, thank God: Watching the replays back was so grim. Hopefully there's no lasting damage. Unlucky Millwall. Thought you played well TBF.
The game was over as soon as our keeper was (correctly) sent off. I've never known a quieter reaction to a deciding goal in thirty years of away games. The banners were ridiculous. Palace will draw Preston.
And clearly neither of us meant it in the way you're suggesting, so let's just leave it at that. If you re-read my post on the game I was the only Palace fan giving your club any credit today, and I even stuck up for your goalkeeper, so if you're going to take your disappointment out on anyone it should probably be someone other than me.
I've got a funny feeling Fulham may win at the swamp this afternoon, draw being done 6.45pm just before I start work , love go back to Preston after 20 plus years.
Only just seen the incident with the Millwall keeper It was tantamount to GBH. Alex Neil is a moron, how can he categorise it as "just a mistimed challenge"? The idiot was miles out of his area, and to say his foot was high, is a massive understatement. He could have killed the Palace player. As it it, he needed 24 stitches in his face. Needs a huge ban.
It was awful, and I agree Alex Neil came across as a bit of a dick afterwards, but I genuinely do think it was just a stupid mis-timed attempt to clear the ball. Definitely dangerous, definitely a red and definitely worthy of 4/5 game ban minimum, but it's not one of those where he's purposefully gone out to injure him like Keane on Haaland or Gerrard on Naismith. It was just really reckless. I'm just glad Mateta seems to be OK.
Imagine digging up a post from 15 years prior to try and shield yourself from using ableist language. F*cking hell, this forum gets more pathetic with each passing day.
Yes agree he did actually get the ball of course but was rash and reckless made worse by the impact .
Pleasantly surprised by the strength of our line up. Hurzeler mentioned players being tired in his pre match interview, so I assumed he was going to rotate a bit
