Last season Aldershot Town finished runners up in the Ryman Premier Division behind Dagenham & Redbridge which represented the highest ever league position in the clubs short eight year existence. It was all in all an excellent season for the Hampshire club who also secured the Hampshire Cup for the second successive season beating Andover 9-1 in the Final at Basingstoke. In their league campaign "The Shots" finished in a creditable second position, once again striker Gary Abbott performed miracles and netted 45 goals in his second season at the club so it was no wonder a sigh of relief was heard when Abbott extended his contract in the summer. At the Recreation Ground the crowds continue to amaze as 2000 regularly clicked through the turnstiles for home games. A fine FA Cup run saw the club into the 2nd round proper where they lost 2-0 to Exeter at St James Park in front of 2000 travelling fans. In the Trophy a 0-0 draw against Woking in the 4th round saw a replay at The Rec watched by over 5500 people, which Woking won 1-0.
