Yeah, was only just saying this the other night after picking the daughter up from a night in town, at her age we had to wear shirt, trousers and shoes...these days young uns go to town looking like theyre spending a day on the beach or just jumped out of bed 17 myself
I was going out during the time it all changed. Jeans became acceptable. Then T-shirts and polo shirts (which to start with for some reason tended to be light pastel colours particular pink & yellow) then smart trainers, ripped jeans I remember once a mate was wearing smart, clean plain white trainers and a bouncer wouldn’t let him in - so my mates brilliant (!!) idea was for him to take his trainers off hold them behind his back because he had black socks on the bouncer would think they were shoes and let him in.. That was beaten in daftness only by the time my mates decided to take a kid out with us who lived at the bottom of their street. We all knew him but he was 5/6 years younger than us. So he’s probably 14/15 at this point (not an old looking 14/15 either) so we gave him Gav’s driving licence on account of Gav being oldest and least likely to need his ID. 4/5 places let him in after checking the ID which clearly wasn’t him, made him the oldest of our group as well as the fact the ID looked like someone else in our group because it actually was….
Reading this thread, has made me look at when I signed up, nearly 20 years ago, I was 17. Time bloody flies by.
I remember not being let into a place because I had cream coloured loafers on and the bouncer was adamant they were trainers - even when I took them off to show him. I was the young looking one in my group, so getting in anywhere before I turned 18 (and I'm the same age as you) was a bloody miracle. Especially as it was around the time of photo ID being a thing. My birthday being the end of August also meant I was the last to turn 18 from my year group as well. I actually lost a load of friends through it because I stopped being invited out.
I very rarely ever got ID. A lot of my mates did. It was why I always lined up at the back of the group when queuing (kids of today won’t know what it’s like to queue up outside of a club!!) so I’d know everyone had been let in before I went in. A lot of the time the bouncer would let my group in the stop at me and explain it was one in one out (kids of today won’t know what it’s like to wait outside a club till someone leaves because it’s full) then I’d have to explain I was the end of the previous group & not the start of the next one. Looking older - is not doing me any favours now at 38. Some of my mates still look as young as they did in their 20s but I feel my face has aged terribly.
I remember that I played Pong in 1975 when I was 12. Worst videogame ever and 2 years later I had an ATARI 2600 Videogames Console. But you're right, we mostly played football on the streets or fields as soon as the school was out and homework was done. And Mother hadn't seen us until the evening. I'll never forget the smile on the face of my mother when I came back from football, totally dirty when it was too muddy again (and Hamburg has enough rain for that ). Ah, happy days
My first computer was a Commodore 16 and to play games you had to put the little tape in the tape deck, then type in ‘load’ on the keyboard onto the screen and then wait about half an hour whilst the game loaded up. Kickstart, Fire Ant and Vegas Jackpot were my 3 favourites.
I joined in 2002. It may have been around the time the old "Rivals" network closed down, so I needed a new outlet to abuse Wolves fans.
I remember Gav from back in the day When I first joined the forum I posted a Man Utd joke in the jokes section we had then and he abused me for it Didn’t you also post once that you thought you had started working with one of the psychos who killed little James in Liverpool?
Remember all of those names in that list. Soon to be 21 years a member on here for me. Joined a teenager - turning 35 this Saturday.
I had the Atari VCS too. What happened to putting sleek wood panelling on your games consoles? Imagine how much better modern consoles could look.
Another teenie when joined here. Must be a whole lot of them in the forums "maiden years". I'm thankful that I wasn't on here at that time, couldn't cope with so much puberty blues. (glad that my daughters are out of it ) Absolutely. PS5 looks terrible (maybe that's also a reason I still haven't one and still playing on the PS4 pro) My favourite Atari game was Pitfall.
I am 37 this Saturday. I joined at the end of 2008....however didn't start posting regularly until a few years after.
