I wouldn’t be surprised if we offered him 1 year & he got a longer contact & more money at York. Can’t actually remember what was announced about him, whether we were in talks or he just wasn’t retained from the start. He’s a similar problem to Dubks & Fadz though - no pace
You've got a good player there. I really like him...he's got excellent close control and runs really well with the ball. He was mainly a sub last season.....but whenever he came on he was a real threat. I wanted him to start more in our team but he doesn't fit with our system at the moment. A bit disappointed in this but I guess if he does well it might benefit us long term.
Weird innit, none of what we’ve done makes much sense. The technical board thing means the owners/head of football are going to by far more on the hook for results to an before, but they’ve backed it up with easily the weakest summer window we’ve had under them. So you think maybe the money isn’t there…. but then we’ve happily turned away bids for Jatta and will let him walk for free next summer despite having Dennis scoring every game. Then we’re not focusing on the developing and selling stuff because it’s all loanees and short term deals, but none who look good enough for a one off push at promotion. **** knows what we’re playing at.
You could make the case that the 18 on Saturday could possibly do well in this league depending on the ability of the coach, but yeah all sense of long term planning seems to have gone out of the window at least on the playing side of things. The unfortunate thing is that club comms have gone down the toilet as well so we really don’t have a clue what the thinking is. The owners don’t really appear to be as invested (in every sense of the word) as what they were.
Could turn out to be a very smart signing that! I will say to have patience with him. His debut for us I honestly thought what an absolute carthorse we’ve signed here. But once he got into a rhythm with our wingers he was excellent. Absolutely vital in our run to the play offs 2 seasons ago, works his bollocks off and a quality penalty taker Struggled a bit last season with Sharp coming back and McCann chopping and changing the two of them often. Then Street came in who we just couldn’t drop. One of those players that leaves with everyone’s best wishes and hope he does the business for you. Massive part of a special group of players for us. Be prepared to be endlessly frustrated when he gets constantly fouled for 90 mins and only 1 in 10 actually get given!
Any insight into Archer? Not heard much of him before? We have done these buy and loan back/out things quite a lot in recent history and unfortunately its never really worked out for us in terms of the player actually making an impact here. Wouldnt surprise me at all if he ends up staying with you unless he is really special
What use are these kids that get sent out from big premier league teams to us down in the basement? My best view is they are being given a chance to pursue their football dreams after being told they will never play for the big boys. Ones that are good enough play in the big boys league when they are teenagers. I'm not deriding them by any means but to me if they are from Man City, Liverpool etc, and coming to league 2, they have failed at that level. Perhaps it's a bit simplistic but to me, a loanee from them isn't a earth shattering gain for the club.
We ended up bringing in two more: Harvey Griffiths, a midfielder from Wolves, on a development loan, which I think basically means we're not paying anything towards his wages and there's no obligation to actually play him. Dion Rankine, a winger from Wigan, on a 2 year deal. They signed him from Chelsea a year ago, and their fans don't seem to rate him at all, but he's young and hopefully will look better at a lower level. The three players we signed last night have addressed our needs, so I have to be happy with that. Hopefully they'll all turn out to be good players! If we can keep Mingi fit, he sounds like a particularly excellent signing.
He's a decent player with a really high ceiling. Needs to believe in himself a bit more. He's a winger that isn't scared to get back and help the defence, but despite wanting to play on the left he's so right-footed it's painful to watch at times. You know that whenever he gets the ball he's going to slow the game down and cut back in on his right. Every now and then he'll shock you and take the full-back on but the cross with the left is usually useless. Can score screamers if given space (ask Notts fans about his goal at the end of last season) and you really can't knock his work rate - something that comes from his non-league grounding. He definitely could make it at League 1 level, and around the right structure could go higher. But it really is all potential at the moment and everyone knows that's not guaranteed, especially as he's 23 already.
I think there's a good chance the plan would have been to sell Jatta, but the timings of the offers weren't right or we couldn't get a replacement. The owners have shown that they're willing to let our better player run their contracts out, whether that's because they didn't get the offers they wanted, couldn't find a replacement, I suppose we will never know. My guess is that this is a bit of a transitional year with the training ground, technical board bedding in, and quite a few more players out of contract next summer. And tbh if Jatta and Dennis are doing the business then there's always the chance we can be a good team, there's only one or two squads that I would say clearly have better quality than ours, the head coach just has to prove he can get the most out of them.
A bit late but good luck to Joe at Tranmere, an absolute gent and professional. I will be looking at your fixtures all season and hope he gets you goals.
