There's always a lot of hit and miss in the loan market anyway. You would expect that teams would do their homework first though. The odd signing (Nathan Lowe, from a Championship team, not a Premiership team, made a massive impact at Walsall the first half of last season for example) does make a massive difference. And a few years ago The Mariners picked up Dean Henderson on loan and you know the rest. I can though also quote a very high number of nondescript loans from top teams who were a total waste of time and just made up numbers.
He only got a year at York I think? I thought he came back from injury an absolute rock last season and would be starting games for me.
Had a good chuckle at the PFA's Facebook post listing which free agents are training with them this week, not because of who's on the list.....but the fact people tag their football club in the comments as if they don't have a scooby who's available.
This is how we finished up. INS Joel Cotterill - Season Loan from Swansea Alfie Chang - Season Loan from Birmingham (with an option to buy) Freddie Issaka - Season Loan from Plymouth Stephan Negru - Season Loan from Oxford (Highly-rated claxon sounded) OUTS Isaac Hutchinson - Season Loan to Cheltenham I dont particularly like loans but needs must and they cover the positions we need (not sure why its taken until the last 2 days of the window to get 4 loans in though!!). Chris Martin is OOC but training with us while he gets fit from injury so he may be an option up-front soon, along with Shaq Forde who has been injured all season.
Late announcement by us Ronnie Stutter on loan from Chelsea. Crap loan at Burton last year but played out of position somewhat - low risk move at least. Not as exciting as Ben Winterburn on loan from Bournemouth who actually came on for them in the Premier League season opener a few weeks ago at Anfield (and got a good few mins in the Prem last season as well). No doubt a catch somewhere but sounds promising
We brought in two and lost nobody. Was worried somebody in League 1 might try their arm with Kilkenny, certainly good enough to play there. Squad looks better than it has for years. Should be knocking at the top 3 places, top 7 or total failure.
It looks worse on paper - Taine Anderson is out for a few months yet, and Jacob Mazionis is on International break at least 3 times over the next few months. What's criminal is that this is the 3rd season in the row that on deadline day we've got more loans than space allowed in the matchday squad.
I think it's safe to say these loans come to nothing more than they work. Especially true of strikers I think.
I blame all the bigger clubs stockpiling these lads from an early age. They have already been given places in the EFL trophy to get them competitive game time, and now every club seems to have on average 4-5 loan players. You cant even bring the youngsters through now in the lower leagues before they swoop when they are 14/15 years old, and offer crumbs of compensation. The good thing about our 5 loans is that 3 or 4 of them could potentially turn into permanents (one we already have an option to buy) - That is not so bad.
also funny when people assume because they’re there then they must be desperate for a club and are available on the cheap - you’ll get a Tranmere fan being like ‘I’d take Adelakun, Assombalonga and Connor Wickham’
Always makes me laugh how the replies to those signings are Premier League fans saying how they'll rip it up and be far too good for this level, as if any of them have ever actually seen them play given they've usually only played for the U21s, or have any idea at all about League Two football.
Now confirmed as a half-season loan deal. That leaves us with four loan players from Lancashire sides, albeit Kai Payne apparently out long-term without stepping foot on the pitch for us (probably why we've brought this lad in till January) People in the game say he's been tipped to do well but has a hot head, but no pressure on him to be anything but backup when everyone's fit. Hopefully he gives us something going forward.
He may be 38 but he's still a decent attacking player and should do well under Ainsworth and Dobbo i loved seeing him play for us one of my favourite ever Wycombe players.
