Done an excellent job in tough circumstances and will be well sort after. Deserves all the plaudits he will get. The next guy will be under pressure to perform well pretty quickly.
Well that’s a sh#tty decision to say the least, stuck by them when the going got really tough, gets them promoted and then they sack him because of a few poor results. It’s ridiculous to expect loyalty from managers when this is the result of it.
Seems a bit of a knee jerk decision. If any manager deserved time after a disappointing start it's him. He also has history of turning them around after slow starts and finishing the season like a train. They seem to do that most seasons. As a club I don't think they've fully recovered yet from the FA Cup semi final where they thought they'd won but had the winner very harshly disallowed for a fingernail offside. It would have been one of the all time FA Cup classic moments and obviously given the club a shot at winning the trophy and I don't think they've truly moved on from that disappointment yet. They finished last season poorly and ended up finishing well short of the playoffs and have carried that form over into this season. Maybe a reset with someone new could be the answer but it's a big gamble to get rid of a manager with his record at the club.
Could see that being one where it looks harsher from the outside. If it was all about results I reckon he'd have gone earlier, not after 7 points from their last 4. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a case of things going 'stale' for both club and for Robins himself. Probably something to Sam's assessment regarding the hangover from last season too.
I'm absolutely gutted, I don't even care about the game last night. Doug King is a pr*ck. He would have to hit the ground running, if 7 points off playoffs isn't good enough for MR. The new person will have no chance. The fanbase is pretty toxic after the sacking.
I know that neutrals from the outside aren't always going to get the full picture, but from the outside it is an incredibly harsh decision. Sure, they are towards the bottom of the table, but the league is so tight at the moment that you really do need to give it time for the league to spread out to see where they are truly at. At the moment I don't know if we're in the play off hunt, or a relegation battle, and Coventry are one win away from being in exactly the same position. I'm not sure Coventry's owners fully appreciated how unique a position they were in to have a stability in their manager. No other club in the division are in that positions - none of the 24 managers were at their clubs for the beginning of the 2022/23 season and the longest serving manager is Paul Warne at Derby. The managers of the majority of clubs in the division have been appointed this calendar year. Credit to Mark Robins for the job he did.
As a neutral, you've nailed pretty much every Cov fans thoughts. Consistency, I can't wait to start sacking managers every 12-18 months. I hope Doug King goes bald (no offence to my bald friends but he loves his poncy hair)
I entirely get the anger given everything Robins has done for you but, playing devil's advocate, do you think the fans would have been as angry if this decision had been made before your most recent wins? The problem King has now, as I see it, is that he's fired a hugely popular manager when he had no need to do so and the run of games you have coming up doesn't exactly scream new manager bounce.
No, I can categorically say that the vast, vast majority of match going fans were behind Robins. There was a lot of talk prior to the Luton game but he was still the man to take us forward. Everyone knows fan forums are bedwetters central, a poll taken before the Luton game was just shy of 70% of keeping Robins. Before the Derby game, I'd argue people (I did) thought we had got over our early season slump and thought we would be looking to climb the table. At best, our season is over but if the new manager isn't perfect, it will get very toxic, relegation isn't off the cards.
Any names being heavily linked to take over? You would imagine that they have someone lined up already.
Horrendous decision from the outside looking in, unless he's somehow managed to lose the dressing room getting rid this early on given all he's done previously and given his Cov side have often started slow then gone on to do well. That Tim Walter at Hull surely soon to follow, things seem to be getting really toxic up there
Didnt he lose his best player in the summer, he came on, bossed us in a game last season, a player that good leaving will have an impact. Hull not doing great after they ditched their manager as well.
I was thinking he meant Hamer because he said came on when they played us, and O'Hare started that game. Hamer started the other though so I guess not. Hamer was their best player at the time they sold him. Not sure on O'Hare being their best. Suppose a Cov fan could tell you!
Just popped in to this thread as I might soon be posting a wishlist for Rob Edwards replacements. His post match interview sounded like a goodbye and thanks for all the memories. Can only mean he is resigning or has been told he is no longer required.
Bet Coventry fans are hoping Doug King picks any of the other 80 managers who have applied. Never seen anything to suggest Frank's a good manager.
In some ways appointing Lampard would be even more baffling than appointing Rooney. Absolutely crazy how these guys live off their playing reputation.
