He never really had a chance to do anything after Sako left. Morgans pocket get tight. Lost our most important player, no money to spend on replacements, Dicko crocked and Afobe got fed up and wanted away.

If you give Jackett money and chance to rebuild a sqaud he'll get you up there. He'll do no worse then Bruce!

Sako and Afobe first though the door would give Sunderland an instant boost in the championship.

Fat Sam says he doesn't have the desire to take another job.....I take that to mean he want's Sunderland to offer him enough money to get his desire back!

Not really true. Direct replacements were never purchased like for like but they spent a reasonable amount of money and wasted it. £3m on Mason and £2m on Coady spring to mind but there were probably more.

Bruce has a track record of getting teams promoted out of this division and Jackett doesn't so there is no evidence to suggest he would do no worse. Jackett is a good manager up to a point but I don't think he will ever be someone who is looked at for a promotion challenging team, he won't get a better job than Wolves again imo. But time will tell.

Not surprised - Moyes has been shown up for the dour, uninspirational fellow he is. His past-it old mates couldn't rescue that sinking ship.
His management days are over IMO. Why keep going when you're wealthy?

Sunderland need to appoint well at this juncture. Is it £40m parachute payment?
I know they're losing half their squad but they'll also have some high earners (by Championship level) who will give nothing for a promotion campaign. If they can get rid of some of that and appoint a bright young motivator, then they may turn it round in a season or two.

I feel for Sunderland fans. The future really doesn't look bright in view of the fact that many clubs in this division have zip all cash to rub together, but manage their resources extremely well.

Rumours circulating up in Scotland that Derek McInnes is in the running for the job.

Grayson was made 2/1 favourite for the Sunderland job last night but luckily our local journo has confirmed there has been no contact.

Dont know why Sunderland dont get Martin O'Neil back seem to fall to pieces when he left and has done good at nearly everywhere hes been

as for Moyes i always thought people overrated how well he did at Everton, highest placed finish was 4th once and they never won a trophy under him in all the time he was there

Hopefully Moyes' managerial career is over, bloody awful manager in recent years. Maybe the Mackems could be enticed to give McCarthy another shot? :hopefully:enditall

Your help and assistance from Pardew and McClaren has come to an end, remember ! :D
I must admit, mates from work talking about SJP as the 0-3 arena amused me, though !
But you'll need more than fond memories now. We were in a mess and needed a big clear out and new faces - Sunderland even more so. We ended up with a hefty profit and a new team that although taking an age to settle together eventually got it sorted late on
Sunderland WON'T get a healthy profit and who's going to buy those useless dicks at the money they're on ?
Who gets brought in will be more important than any decision since Reid.
I'd say the Aberdeen manager McInnes preferably or Monk.
But that cess pit of a team without their ONE shining light Defoe. (No, I don't think your keeper is what you peeps seem to think)
    ....you in a whole mess o'trouble, boy ! :gotcha:bye

Spoken like someone who wouldn't have him within a thousand miles of his own team !!!!
It really mystifies me how Pardew has such a PR - Crystal Palace fans at the time were celebrating when he went there (So where we !) one dope even said they'd be challenging for Champions League - I sat in a pub near the Tyne Bridge (The Bridge Hotel) when I saw that on TV - the seconds disbelieving silence - then the absolute roar of laughter shook the windows ! :D
Pardew's early success was down in large part to the tireless work and signings of Chris Hughton, who is highly thought of up here. Cisse did well that season. Bought by Graham Carr - NOT Pardew
It has to be remembered before Ashley gave Pardew the job here, he couldn't get a job in Div 1.
He's slowly sliding back down to that

We've had a few of our supporters touting the idea of Pardew for us. Same as you, I can't see the appeal in him and have never rated him at all. To be honest, I think he's a horrible little scrout and I'd rather have Roy Keane back than have Pardew (and that's making a statement).

tbf before newcastle he helped put together the team that took us to the premier league.

sacked for not securing promotion in his first season despite having to contend with a 10 point deduction and building a squad virtually from scratch in a very strong league one. (also maybe sacked for having already lined up the newcastle job)

McInnes is a strange one. He did a poor job at Bristol City last time he was here.

He managed to rebuild his reputation with a good job at Aberdeen, but going to Sunderland, a side with big expectations despite a rebuilding imminent, would be strange move on his end unless he is given time to install his ethos.

    Ridiculous comment.

Managers all over the world fail in English football including a hell of a lot of English managers who have doe well at past English clubs.

Anyway McInnes rejected Sunderland, must have been a lot of red flags for him not to take a punt in England again

Fair point - but I only thinking it might damage his reputation if the guy didn't do well in the Champions again compared to going well in Scotland.
