Supposedly Maddison has told the club he has no intention of renewing his contract.
Probably end up at Newcastle but be interesting to see if any of the big clubs want him.
Shame for us. But hope somone else does come in so we can try and get a bigger fee.

If he leaves I guess you’ll get a decent fee.

Guess it depends what's considered decent for him. But I think you guys stopped at 40million in the summer, you'd have to assume you'd want to pay less with only a year left on his contract.

He's IMO one of England's best midfielders. But surely Leicester City need him more than a big fee in January. £40m is a big fee, but it's what we paid for Bruno Guimaraes, whose running our midfield.

It's rumoured that we may be interested in Shakhtar Donetsk's Mykhaylo Mudryk, who at just 21 is seen by many as the new Luka Modrić.
But we must stay within FFP, so maybe James Maddison is too big of a spend for us in January.

If people are watching Mudryk and calling him the new Modric, they need to stop watching football

I see some media are saying you guys are interested as well, but it's reported that Shakhtar are wanting £43m for him. That's heavy.

£40m isn’t a big fee we won’t sell for that

Enters last year of his contract at the end of this season, so I wouldn't be scoffing at £40m tbh.

I'd like Liverpool to look into Maddison but I doubt it happens.

£40mil? For one of the best attacking players in the country… You might get his left foot for that.

It doesn’t matter what Bruno cost you. He’s a midfielder, they never cost anywhere near as much as striker or attacking midfielders/wingers who can score and create something from nothing and who can win you football games from very little like Maddison can.

I dunno. If it's next summer and they're the only club interested we might not get much more. Surely the club won't allow another Tielemens situation. We need more clubs interested tbh.

Personally, I don’t think Maddison is anything too special and think he’d suffer the same fate as Grealish if he moved to a bigger club.

I have to agree, I think he will just be swallowed up, Maddison is a great player but with the right combination of players and particular the team Leicester won the title with, now that was an amazing season (we all secretly wish it can happen more in the future).

Never know how a player is going to do at a club where he’s not got so much license for sure. I never thought Chilwell would do much good at Chelsea for example and thought he’d be crap. If you’d told me to predict who would’ve done better out of Chilwell and Drinkwater at Chelsea, I would’ve said Drinkwater based on their Leicester performances, so who knows?

I don’t think he’s too far off prime Mahrez, Kante or Vardy at all just basing it from what I’ve seen of Leicester players though. Maddison is the best player I’ve seen at Leicester outside of the title winning players.

I’m also not sure that’s a relevant argument when discussing a move to Newcastle anyway, as he would have the team built around him at Newcastle and given license to attack, unlike Grealish at ManCity where he’s just a supplementary player designed to get the best out of de Bruyne or Haaland.

And Maddison had already proven himself at a higher level than Newcastle are currently at anyway, being a key player in a side who finished 5th twice, won the FA Cup and reached a European semi-final, which Newcastle will likely exceed in the future but still aren’t at that level yet and he’s improved since a lot of that too

Maddison would be Newcastle’s key attacking player they’d build the side around and help elevate them to the next level as a top 6 side. Even if you can’t fully tell how a player will do, I’m quite confident in that statement though. He’s already been that for us when we were chasing the CL and been what Newcastle are aspiring to be now, and he’s an even better player now than he was 2-3 seasons ago.

edit - (I think Grealish would be the same if he signed for Newcastle as well and would be key in elevating them to the next level fwiw, as far as the comparison goes, it’s not the same as signing for ManCity where you’re a supplement player not a key player).

I’m not arguing with any of that tbf. I agree, and I think Newcastle is the only move that makes sense.

It depends which bigger club you mean as if Maddison came to Liverpool for example there is a need for him and I think our style suits him. So I think it would be a good fit. I’d take him in a heartbeat. Grealish was completely not the right fit or need for City so it’s no surprise he has flopped.

How long is left on his contract? If it’s a year then I think £40m would be about right.

As stats show, Grealish hasn't flopped at Man City, more like he isn't up to the insanely high level of Man City football

The fact that Newcastle have overtaken Leicester in the perception of fans already just proves how unmerited the whole thing is. "They have money from someone else now so they are bigger." Leicester have won a title and FA Cup in the past decade, Newcastle **** all for decades. Football being played and won off the pitch. Revolting.

So you think you should be asking for how much for him?
