I doubt we’ll have an asking price on anything for him because we don’t want to sell and he’ll be extremely difficult to replace. It’s not as simple as “here’s a price that’s market value” for the selling club. The value for us also has to take into account it’s probably going to take several attempts at signings to replace him as it has for Mahrez. Attacking players like him are very rare and hard to get for a non-top 6 side and they’re never quick fixes either and generally players you have to develop over a few years like we did with Maddison and Mahrez. Defensive players you can replace, midfielders you can replace, even Kante we could replace. Attacking players like Mahrez, Maddison or Vardy for example are so much more difficult for non-top 6 sides. I know he’s worth a lot more than £40mil to us though, even with 2yrs left on his contract, as it will likely take a lot more than £40mil for us to replace him for starters.
I think ManCity are so far ahead of the other “big 6” clubs that’s it’s not really a fair comparison to the other big 6 clubs. Liverpool were too before this season. But say, put Grealish or Maddison as the main attacking midfielder in the other top 6 clubs, so in the place of Ødegaard, Fernandes/Eriksen, Mount or Richarlason/Kulusevski and I don’t think you make any of those sides any worse at least. I think Grealish and Maddison are at the same level as those players, probably an improvement on some of them.
He enters the final year of his contract in the Summer, and unless you get him signed up to a new deal you will be forced to sell in the Summer or lose him for nothing in Summer 2024. £40m would be a good fee in those circumstances.
The fans look at games results and the league table. Eight players of our team that beat Spurs were here before the takeover. Our fortune on the pitch is about more than just money. We're still within the rules of FFP actually.
Oh yeah, you're clearly ahead of Liverpool then What I said is true, and it's a clear indication of how merit doesn't really exist in football.
Much more of a kick in the teeth than when we lost players to Chelsea, Man City*, Utd etc. Far bigger clubs than us with success to back it up. *Obviously Man City bought their success too.
No idea what he should/would/will cost but I’d happily take Maddison at Arsenal. Xhaka is doing a fine job so far in that left #8 role but he is now 30 and a player with the end product that Maddison possesses would be a fine upgrade. However, another player like that is fairly low down the list of priorities right now. Winger, competition at #6 and a left sided centre back are all more pressing needs right now. Maybe even a different type of striker too.
Where has anyone said that? Newcastle are very clearly trying to grow as a club so will be looking to buy players to make them better. Maddison fits that criteria. From Maddison perspective it’s a club where he can get paid more and know they will be actively be looking to eventually challenge for the PL. It’s a step up from in ambition. Let’s not pretend the league title represents Leicester as future title contenders. Even the FA Cup was won by a dodgy handball. Neither success suggests Leicester are more likely to challenge for silverware than Newcastle in the next 5 years.
I would love Liverpool to sign Maddison. He doesn’t suit your current set up in the slightest. Not really sure where you think he’d fit in.
And what about it? I'm not having a pop at Leicester. I hope you keep Maddison and play like the well run club you are.
So the only reason Maddison would be going to Newcastle and other fans now see you as a better prospect is the money. Which I think was Flips point.
You just there, you ****ing idiot. It's a step up because they're owned by someone with lots of money, not because Newcastle have earned damn thing. Hence the point of a lack of meritocracy, something that should be key in sport. No surprises a Chelsea fan has such a lack of integrity.
Why are you always so rude on here? Once again you’re straight into insulting someone who’s dared to challenge your opinion. There’s no need for it. You can disagree with how Newcastle’s future ambitions have grown but that doesn’t mean they don’t represent a better chance of winning silverware in the next 5 years.
An Internet forum is probably not the best place for you then. Of course it’s not you who’s the problem.
Most people tend to be able to comprehend the English language on here. Thanks for the advice, Gal. I've only been on forums since 2008 I don't have a problem. If there is one then it's very much on your side.
How can you have the gall to accuse others of saying "no you are" and then do the exact same thing? You are so difficult to even have a conversation with before you start with the insults.
