So, it's Plymouth's turn. Has Wayne signed any new players yet or is he hoping for better things from the current squad. I'm guessing you'll be down by Christmas.
Do I have to make a snarky comment in this thread now that we’ve won a league game? Would anybody like the honour of snarking my snark by saying something like ‘enjoy it because it won’t happen often’? (I posted this comment in the wrong thread just now presumably because of the shock of what’s happened)
So, he's brought in the experience and nous of Mike Phelan to presumably help (manage) prevent Plymouth from relegation? This is a good move by Rooney as Phelan has shown over the years that he's a decent No.2, whereas Rooney is just a No.2.
From tonight's dugout; Rooney: "You see Mike, they're not playing like I want them to." Phelan: "No, and they never will again if I have anything to do with it."
They were really poor tonight, I don't know how that compares to them generally over the season but they really don't look up to much. They sat off us and let us play, and then with about 25 to go they brought on another striker and just started playing very direct. That's fine as a tactic, but if that is what they're going for, they've hardly built a side to do it and didn't have any real height in their side.
He's really shit isn't he? Surely his last job at this level, and probably England. Bringing in Phelan seems a bit of a desperate move.
Another hammering yesterday leaving Plymouth rock bottom, absolute fraud of a manager. Just caught his post match interview, all the players fault, his selection and tactics were spot on. Won’t be long before he starts mentioning the fans and how they’re having a negative impact on the team…
I can't be arsed to type it out again so the above quote that I posted in November 2023 will do for where things are at now
Reminds me of Eric Morecambe's famous quote to Andre Previn about playing the right notes but not necessarily in the right order. Their last four away games read P4 L4 F1 A16.
Of Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard I thought WR probably had the best chance of making it as a manager as he appeared more down to earth than the other two, and from memory did a pretty decent and honourable job with Derby despite their relegation, but since then he's been an absolute disaster everywhere he's gone. He must have one of the worst records in managerial history given the amount of clubs and games he's been given. He couldn't even hack it in the MLS. Definitely time for him to pack it in, or at best become a strikers' coach where his knowledge may actually be useful.
