Ange will need time. He will completely rip up that Spurs side and start again, players will be signed with his formation and style in mind so it might not always be the big names Spurs fans are used to chasing every summer. The most important part of an Ange team for me is the inverted Full backs as they are the key to opening up space and freeing up the midfielders, so getting them right will be key to everything he does. Also don't expect much involvement from the striker unless he is in the box, this is why Kyogo who does have elite level movement works so well for him but if Kyogo had the power and conviction of Kane Celtic would have probably won some of those CL games they lost out on. If he was to come in for any Celtic players it would be between Kyogo, Hatate, McGregor and Jota and all could do at job in the EPL. We wish him all the best, he took over a side who self imploded during the Pandemic and who's standards slipped beyond belief and quickly turned it all around. Hearing John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan will now follow him out the door aswel now.
Our top 6 / 7 record is overstated. Ultimately we've generally done well at home and poor away which is fairly true of most of those teams. The league isn't really decided on those big away games either. Maybe the title but ultimately if you're consistent enough against the rest of the league then we'll be where we want to be in the league or thereabouts at least. People make too much of our record against the top 6/7 though. Even this season I think Arsenal were the only side to come to Tottenham and win and that's their first away win in years. City haven't scored a goal at Spurs new stadium yet for all the fuss about us being bad v the top 6. I don't think we typically chase big names tbh. We'll be more than happy looking to smaller clubs than ourselves to improve the squad / 11 where we can. We rarely if ever go for the finished article. Most of our signings are potential stepping stones elsewhere if they do well enough.
The first player he tried to sign for Celtic alongside Kyogo was Mitoma who went to Brighton instead so expect intitail links to him. Ange spoke very highly of him.
Liverpool won at Spurs this season didn't they? or was that a fever dream given how shite they'd been otherwise.
I'm sure we'll get linked with a lot of players as usual. Think Mitoma is probably better off staying at Brighton given they have European football this coming season. You're possibly right. To be honest I put most of this season out of my mind. I don't remember losing many of the big home games though, just crap everywhere else.
I don't think the appointment eliminates all the negativity at the football club. ENIC and Levy are both pretty unpopular still but it feels like the support are pretty optimistic about this appointment. Feels like more of a Tottenham appointment than either Mourinho, Nuno or Conte were. Much needed boost of positivity around the club.
Wonder if he'll last as long as Gerrard did at Villa ? Got a big job on his hands adopting a squad with a fragile mentality maybe cash in on Kane £90-£100 million might be a good idea although no European football next season will lessen the game load , good luck to him , his Celtic team play nice football but in a League where I can nearly name a full team of ex Posh players plying there trade there shows how weak it is .
Mitoma would be ridiculously expensive due to them losing Mac Allister and probably losing Caicedo this summer. In fact, it would probably be impossible to buy Mitoma this summer. I actually think it might be a good time to join Spurs. Due to the football they've been playing and Kane potentially leaving, I get the feeling the Spurs fans would just be happy with playing good, entertaining football next season. I don't think there's a lot of expectation in regards to achieving top 4 or anything or am I reading the situation wrong? Good football and a sense of going in the right direction.
The biggest tragedy of all is that if Harry Kane leaves Spurs, we’ll never get to hear him try and say “Postecoglou”.
I think it'll be similar to Poch's first season which came off a particularly poor season and toxic feel across the fanbase. We played a post-season testimonial that year and our players were booed at times during it. Poch brought a feel good factor back to the club, played good football and secured European football. I think the latter is the minimum expectation and Ange will get time if there are signs of us looking like building something. Does still need results to buy some patience though. The season can't ever be a complete write off.
Someone text it to me tbf. No surprise who had time to go and find the original source and tell me though…
One thing that should be an improvement is how Ange handles the press. Being a native English speaker should cause a lot less confusion and shitstirring by the press. Sure they will find a way, especially when things go wrong but so many times in this last decade I've seen articles after press conferences where quotes are taken out of context and somehow it suddenly gives a bad vibe around the club. AVB, Poch, Mourinho, Conte all had the same things happen even when things went well. No idea if this is just a press thing, something that's hard to understand when you don't really know how Spanish/Portugese/Italian people communicate or what it is but it's very weird as someone who's not English and see them make something from an interview when they clearly meant something else. Same thing regularly happens with our Belgian National team when they have an interview with a Belgian newspaper and everything they say seems pretty normal and then suddenly the English press picks up on it and it's a massive deal. Very weird. Not sure if those things affect the dressing room but I assume they do to some extent.
I find that most managers have a honeymoon off the english press if the english press are star struck. Others have used that up and the press are "out to do them down" This lad might be considered something good or he could be taken as a hick from hickville Australia who's managed a tin pot Scottish side. who knows? But if the english media fawn over him its a great start for him. An example of what I mean is Mourinho. The absolutely love in in 2005 was unreal. His second coming at Chelsea was fairly ok but by the time he rolled up to old trafford he was on a hiding to nothing. By the time jose was walking into the spurs dressing room the media were on his back. (same for klopp btw, the love in is long over and the knives are out)
I am merely exaggerating the type of thin the daily mail might write about the new spurs manager. we all know the Lisbon lions are a legendary club of course.
