As I said in the other thread, this is not a surprise. In US election years, more often than not Person of the Year goes to whoever won. You have to go all the way back to the Clinton re-election year of 1996 to find the most recent example of the president elect not being named Person of the Year (and Clinton did get it in 1992).
I think the big surprise it wasn't someone like Netanyahu, but other than him, Trump certainly makes the most sense for it.
Honestly, I feel like it should've been the internet/social media or like Joe Rogan if they want a person, not because of anything to do with Rogan himself but because this election proved online media is now mainstream media. That's a much more longer-term shift than Trump and would have happened with or without Trump at some point, its much more historic and influential IMO. Meanwhile...
