honestly no, I think he would have been signed by Madrid or the like. I would like to think he is a very loyal player but I think the loyalty is mainly due to the time we've given him despite a recurring injury.
With the greatest respect, I was watching Fabregas do that week in week out when he was 18. I was watching Wilshere do it last season, Modric isn't the only controlling centre midfielder in this league. He's a solid player but I still fail to see that defining aspect in his game that makes him so great.
Not a chance. Not even in the top 3 in the league. Nor has Vermaelen then. If Parker is, Lucas is. I wouldn't say either are, however. Although in the criteria I hold I could argue for either to be amongst the top 5 or so DMs I guess...
couldn't agree more!! evra is not world class- he'll never be as good as denis irwin. Rooney is, Jones will be, RVP- most certainly, Silva 100%
I just can't really agree that King is world class TBH, not when you have the likes of Thiago Silva, Pepe, Vidic, Pique, Lucio etc etc proving to be top class on a consistant basis. Yes King is good but I have never ever watched a totenham game within which he has completely and utterly dominated for example on occasion when I have watched Pique and Lucio. Parker is beginning to make a name for himself, probably too late though, Modric needs at least another year playing the way he is and probably needs to prove it against better players first. For me, if you have a good season thats just good form, you need to be able to perform on a consistant basis to be classed as world class.
Seen quite a few mentions for Cech in this thread. But the guy hasn't been the player he once was before his skull injury. Before his injury, he was absolute top draw and the best keeper in the world IMO. Unfortunately, the injury has really f*cked him up. Take that Arsenal game for example, he was easily beaten at his near post in the three of the five goals he conceded. I don't think he will ever become the player he once was.
What he said, the Injury ruined Cech unfortunately. He seems to be afraid to come for the ball alot now. Riena and Given are the 2 world class keepers in the league in my opinion
King has been top class consistently for hundreds of games in a row, over a number of seasons. Honestly cannot remember one goal down to him, and can remember numerous times where he has saved certain goals. IMO, our most important player. When he plays we don't just have the benefit of a world class CB, but he brings the best out of every other defender.
i don't know how anyone can suggest Ledley King is world class - he has been a slightly above average performer in the premiership. if he played in any other league no one would look twice at him - typical English arrogance.
He hasn't proved what? That he's up there with the best CBs in the league? Hmm I'm sorry, but yes he has. Vidic and Kompany apart, I wouldn't swap him for anyone else.
i suppose it will be futile arguing about ledley king's quality with spurs fans. do you put honestly him in the same class as vidic, pique, silva, puyol etc?
Haven't seen enough of the last 3 to compare, but he's not noticeably worse than Vidic. A CBs job in it's simplest form, is to protect his team's goal - Ledley does this as well as anyone. Like I said, I cannot remember one goal that was his fault. There was one moment earlier in the season, think it was against Liverpool, where he missed his kick, and I actually doubled back, checking it was him, such is the rarity of him making even that simple a mistake. I think there was a moment where all 36,000 Yids in WHL thought to themselves, woahh did Ledley just step away from perfection? The fact I even remember King miskicking a ball (the mistake led to absolutely nothing as he mopped up his own mess) shows how rare it is!
Of course he's not in the same class as those you named. That would suggest there's anyone near Ledley's level
